OZ-00MS2B Tallgeese III
Zechs' Tallgeese with mega cannon rivalling Wing Zero.
The OZ-00MS2B Tallgeese III was a custom Tallgeese developed alongside the OZ-00MS2 Tallgeese II but not completed in time for Treize Khushrenada to take it to space during the Eve Wars. After the war’s conclusion, the Tallgeese III was confiscated by the Earth Sphere Unified Nation’s Preventer Taskforce and kept in storage. In AC 196, during the Mariemaia Incident, former OZ ace pilot Zechs Merquise returned from hiding to work for the Preventers, assigned the codename “Wind” and given Tallgeese III to fight the Mariemaia Army. The mobile suit featured superior speed exceeding most other mobile suits, a mega cannon rivaling the Wing Zero’s twin buster rifle, and a shield with retractable heat rod.
Overview
The Tallgeese III was based on the previous two Tallgeese models, retaining the legendary Super Vernier performance that required exceptional pilot conditioning to operate safely. It featured new armaments that combined elements from both the original Tallgeese and the Gundam Epyon—particularly the mega cannon and heat rod, which suggested design influence from Treize Khushrenada’s development of Epyon.
The mobile suit’s most distinctive feature was its mega cannon, more powerful than the dober gun used on the previous two Tallgeese models. When the mega cannon’s barrel split open and extended, the weapon switched from “Normal Mode” to “Maximum Output Mode” for unleashing its full power. The destructive power of Maximum Output Mode rivaled the Wing Zero’s twin buster rifle—a single shot was enough to destroy the asteroid base MO-III.
The cockpit featured an Interface System that served as precursor to the Epyon System, providing enhanced pilot-machine coordination without the ZERO System’s psychological dangers.
Armament
Vulcan Guns
Mounted in the head, the pair of shell-firing weapons had high rate of fire but little power and couldn’t damage thick mobile suit armor, though they could damage lightly armoured areas such as sensors. They were ideal for shooting down small, lightly armoured targets such as missiles or attack vehicles.
Mega Cannon
The strongest weapon of the Tallgeese III was its mega cannon, more powerful than the dober gun used on previous models. The cannon had two firing modes:
Normal Mode: Standard firing configuration for general combat.
Maximum Output Mode: The cannon’s barrel split open and extended, unleashing its full power. The destructive power rivaled the Wing Zero’s twin buster rifle. A single Maximum Output Mode shot destroyed the asteroid base MO-III, demonstrating firepower capable of eliminating fortified positions with one strike.
Shield
Like previous Tallgeese models, the Tallgeese III’s shield hung off the left shoulder joint for defensive purposes. However, unlike its predecessors, it also mounted a retractable heat rod in addition to two beam sabres, significantly enhancing close-combat capabilities.
Beam Sabres
Two beam sabres were stored in the shield when not in use. Powered by internal capacitors, beam sabres focused plasma into blade shapes and could cut through any object not treated with anti-beam coating. Whilst the basic structure was similar to those used by Tallgeese and Tallgeese II, they had been enhanced and possessed the same performance as Gundam-equipped beam sabres.
Heat Rod
Hidden within the shield was a retractable heat rod. When deployed, it could be used with or without being super-heated. The heat rod could trip or entangle opponents and even cut through mobile suits when heated. This weapon was particularly useful for battling mobile suits with anti-beam coatings, providing an alternative to beam weapons.
Operational history
Development and storage (AC 195-196)
Tallgeese III was developed at around the same time as Tallgeese II was being built for Treize Khushrenada. However, it wasn’t finished in time for Treize to take it to space during the Eve Wars. After the war’s conclusion, the Tallgeese III was confiscated by the Earth Sphere Unified Nation’s Preventer Taskforce and kept in storage, preserved as one of the few remaining high-performance mobile suits after the post-war disarmament.
Mariemaia Incident (December AC 196)
When the Mariemaia Army declared war on the Earth Sphere Unified Nation in AC 196, former OZ ace pilot Zechs Merquise returned from hiding to work for the Preventers. Zechs was assigned the codename “Wind” and given Tallgeese III to fight against the Mariemaia Army.
Zechs first attacked the Mariemaia forces in space whilst they launched from their base MO-III. Using the mobile suit’s beam saber, Zechs cut down several ships but had to stop when Dekim Barton threatened to drop a space colony at Earth. When Dekim fled, Zechs used the mega cannon’s Maximum Output Mode to destroy the asteroid base MO-III with a single devastating shot.
Later, Zechs used the Tallgeese III to pacify the Mariemaia Army’s fleet of MMS-01 Serpents in Brussels without killing any of the pilots. The Tallgeese III’s superior performance allowed Zechs to disable hundreds of Serpent units alongside Lucrezia Noin in a Taurus and the three Gundams (Deathscythe Hell, Heavyarms Custom, Sandrock Custom).
