Brussels

Brussels (ブリュッセル, Buryusseru) was a city on Earth in Belgium that served as the capital of the Earth Sphere Unified Nation (ESUN) in the After Colony era. It was the seat of the ESUN government and the Preventers headquarters. During the Mariemaia Incident in December AC 196, Brussels was invaded by the Mariemaia Army, which seized the Presidential Mansion and occupied the city with over 400 MMS-01 Serpent mobile suits.

Role in the Mariemaia Incident

After the Eve Wars, the ESUN disbanded its military and adopted pacifist policies. Dekim Barton’s Mariemaia Army exploited this by descending from MO-III to Earth and capturing Brussels, taking control of the presidential compound and holding the government hostage. Relena Darlian was held in the presidential bunker with Mariemaia Khushrenada and Dekim.

The final battle of the incident was fought in Brussels. The Preventers and Gundam pilots—Heero Yuy in Wing Zero, Duo Maxwell, Trowa Barton, Quatre Raberba Winner, and Chang Wufei—engaged the Serpent forces whilst avoiding killing the pilots. Zechs Merquise in the Tallgeese III and Lucrezia Noin in a Taurus supported the operation. Heero fired Wing Zero’s twin buster rifle at the presidential shelter, allowing the crisis to end with Mariemaia’s surrender and Dekim’s death.
