NZ-000 Queen Mansa
Mass production Newtype-use heavy mobile suit developed by Neo Zeon.
The NZ-000 Queen Mansa was a mass production Newtype-use heavy mobile suit developed by Neo Zeon for the Glemy Toto faction during the First Neo Zeon War.
The “NZ” designation indicated it was a Neo Zeon model and the “000” denoted it as the initial design in a new classification system for large-scale Newtype weapons. The pinnacle of Zeon Newtype-use mobile weapon technology at its time, the NZ-000 Queen Mansa was considered one of the most powerful mobile weapons ever constructed.
History
Following the Gryps Conflict, Neo Zeon (formerly Axis Zeon) began developing new mobile suits using the most advanced technologies that surpassed those of the AEUG and Earth Federation in nearly every way. Designed and constructed by Neo Zeon’s Glemy Toto faction during the First Neo Zeon War, the Queen Mansa combined the best features of the successful AMX-004 Qubeley series and the Titans’ MRX-010 Psycho Gundam Mk-II into one design.
The Queen Mansa was intended to serve as the ultimate Newtype weapon, incorporating lessons learned from previous large-scale mobile suits. The first Queen Mansa unit was operated by Glemy’s young pet Newtype soldier Ple Two. It was fielded against Neo Zeon leader Haman Karn’s loyalist forces during Glemy’s insurrection in January UC 0089.
During the Neo Zeon Civil War, the Queen Mansa proved its devastating effectiveness in combat. However, the Queen Mansa – along with Glemy Toto – were soon destroyed inside the asteroid base Axis by the AEUG’s Gundam Team.
In UC 0090, remnants of the Glemy faction fielded a reconstructed version piloted by Newtype Annerose Rosenheim. This unit was later used during the Oldsmobile Army incident.
The Queen Mansa’s design philosophy influenced later Neo Zeon mobile weapons development. Later Neo Zeon factions continued to develop large-scale Newtype weapons, including the NZ-333 α-Azieru from the Char’s Rebellion in UC 0093, plus the NZ-666 Kshatriya and NZ-999 Neo Zeong from the Laplace Incident in UC 0096.
Design
The Queen Mansa represented the culmination of Zeon mobile suit design philosophy, emphasising overwhelming firepower and Newtype-specific features. At 42.1 metres total height, it was significantly larger than conventional mobile suits, allowing for enhanced power systems and armament capacity.
This massive mobile suit was armed with a wide variety of mega particle cannons, and carried 30 psycommu-controlled funnels in a large tail binder. The mobile suit featured an ultracompact fusion reactor with an output of 21,370 kW, providing power for its extensive weapon systems.
The Queen Mansa incorporated several innovative design features. Like the AMX-004-3 Qubeley Mk-II, the Queen Mansa could be controlled externally via a psycommu controller headset worn by the pilot, and like the Psycho Gundam Mk-II (and even the old Principality of Zeon’s MSN-02 Zeong), the Queen Mansa’s head could detach and operate independently if the main body was heavily damaged and destroyed.
The cockpit was located in the head unit, featuring a panoramic monitor and linear seat configuration. This placement allowed for better visibility and protection whilst enabling the head to function as an escape pod when necessary.
Armaments
The Queen Mansa’s standard weapons were multiple mega particle cannons for ranged attacks and beam sabers for melee combat, supplemented by its extensive funnel array.
3-barrel mega particle cannon
A beam gun mounted in the forehead, it has a power rating of 13.6 MW. When the Quin Mantha’s head separates from the rest of the body, it can use this weapon to defend itself while escaping. This weapon served as the primary armament for the detached head unit.
Mega particle cannons
Throughout the body of the Quin Mantha are a total of six mega particle guns. Two are mounted on the top of the back-mounted funnel container (7.8 MW), another two are mounted on the chest (8.3 MW), and the last two are mounted in the forearms (6.5 MW). These weapons provided comprehensive fire coverage and allowed the Queen Mansa to engage multiple targets simultaneously.
Beam sabers
Stored in the Quin Mantha’s shoulder binders are two powerful Large Beam Sabers. Power-rated at 1.8 MW, they outclass the MSZ-010S Enhanced ZZ Gundam’s Hyper Beam Sabers. Its broad beam blade can slice a regular mobile suit with ease. These close-combat weapons were designed for devastating melee attacks.
Funnels
A set of 30 remote-controlled weaponry known as Funnels are stored in a container mounted on the back. The Quin Mantha’s funnels are of the same type as those used by the AMX-004 Qubeley, and have an output of 1.3 MW each.
They are powered by a built-in energy capacitor and have to return to the mobile suit for recharging after operating for a certain amount of time. The funnels are used to attack the enemy unit from multiple directions at once, essentially creating a cage of beams that is impossible to dodge except for the most agile of mobile suits and the most skilled of pilots.
Mega particle deflection system
The large binders on its shoulders housed a variant of the I-field barrier concept called a mega particle deflection system, which not only absorbed or deflected incoming beam weapons fire like a standard I-field, but could also redirect that beam fire back at the foe that fired it. This defensive system provided both protection and offensive capabilities.

Behind the scenes
Original mechanical designer: Mika Akitaka (Gundam ZZ version). The name “Queen Mansa” derives from “Mansa”, the Mandinka word for a hereditary ruler, particularly the ruler of the historical Mali Empire.
The Queen Mansa was designed to showcase the ultimate expression of Zeon mobile suit technology and served as a precursor to later large-scale Newtype weapons.
