MSM-04G Juaggu
Prototype amphibious mobile suit developed by Zeonic for special operations against Jaburo.
The MSM-04G Juaggu was a prototype amphibious mobile suit developed by Zeonic to provide medium-range fire support for other mobile suits during the planned assault on the Earth Federation Forces’ underground Jaburo military headquarters.
The “MSM” in the model code denoted it was a Marine mobile suit, “04” indicated it was the fourth amphibious design series, and “G” signified it was a special operations variant. The name “Juaggu” is also translated as “Juagg” in some sources.
History
In preparation for its planned assault on the Earth Federation Forces’ underground South American Jaburo military headquarters during the One Year War, the Zeon military forces stationed at California Base developed several special operation mobile suits to aid in the assault. As Zeon prepared for its massive invasion of the heavily fortified underground facility located along the Amazon River, military engineers recognised the need for specialised amphibious units capable of operating in the challenging riverine environment.
The MSM-04G Juaggu was one such machine, created based on the MSM-04 Acguy design. Its role was that of a rearguard and medium-range fire support unit for fellow special operation mobile suits participating in the assault. The mobile suit was designed to provide overwhelming firepower to suppress Federation defences whilst other units advanced to their primary objectives.
The biggest feature of the Juaggu was its elliptical head, which incorporated a movable exhaust heat duct similar to an elephant’s trunk. This distinctive design element provided enhanced heat dissipation capabilities essential for sustained combat operations in the humid Amazon environment.
However, the Juaggus built at California Base were never deployed in their intended role, as Char Aznable discovered the secret spacedock entrance to Jaburo long before the scheduled assault and launched a hasty attack with the limited resources he received from California Base in time. This early assault negated the need for the specialised equipment that had been prepared for the more elaborate operation originally planned.
Nearly twenty years after the One Year War, a modified Juaggu was used by Zeon remnants in an attack on the Earth Federation capital at Dakar in UC 0096. Years later, during the assault on Dakar, the Juaggu deployed by Zeon remnants had revised armaments. Despite its age, the Juaggu still proved to be a tough opponent for the more modern defending mobile suits, demonstrating the soundness of its basic design concepts.
Design
The MSM-04G Juaggu was loosely based on the MSM-04 Acguy design but incorporated significant modifications to fulfil its specialised fire support role. The mobile suit featured substantially heavier armament and enhanced power generation capability compared to standard amphibious mobile suits of the era.
The Juaggu’s most distinctive feature was its elliptical head design incorporating a movable exhaust heat duct that resembled an elephant’s trunk. This innovative cooling system provided superior heat dissipation capability compared to conventional designs, essential for the sustained fire operations that defined the mobile suit’s tactical role.
The mobile suit was powered by a Minovsky type ultracompact fusion reactor rated at 2,660 kW output, providing sufficient power for both its heavy weapons systems and propulsion requirements. The enhanced power generation was necessary to support the multiple mega particle cannons that formed the core of the Juaggu’s firepower.
Propulsion was provided by hydrojet thrusters generating 97,900 kg of total thrust, giving the Juaggu a maximum water speed of 55 knots. Whilst not as fast as some other amphibious designs, the speed was considered adequate for its intended support role, where firepower and stability were prioritised over pure mobility.
The mobile suit’s substantial weight of 137.3 metric tons empty and 198.7 metric tons fully loaded reflected its heavy armament and robust construction. This mass, whilst limiting speed, provided the stability platform necessary for accurate fire support operations.
Armaments
The MSM-04G Juaggu’s standard weapons were 3-tube rocket launchers mounted on the arms for explosive firepower and mega particle cannons housed in the torso for beam weapon capability.
3-tube 320 mm rocket launcher
A 3-tube 320 mm rocket launcher was attached to each arm of the Juaggu, providing the mobile suit with substantial explosive firepower. These weapons formed the primary armament system and were designed to deliver devastating area-effect damage against enemy positions and formations.
The Juaggu deployed by Zeon remnants in UC 0096 featured modified rocket launchers that could rapid-fire small rockets, providing enhanced rate of fire compared to the original design. These smaller rockets had no problem punching holes in mobile suit shields or armour, demonstrating continued effectiveness against modern targets.
In the hands of a skilled pilot, the triple rocket launchers could be used to engage enemy mobile suits in close combat, serving as improvised melee weapons when circumstances required direct engagement. The robust construction of the launchers made them suitable for such unconventional use.
Mega particle cannon
Housed in the torso, four mega particle cannons were powered directly by the Juaggu’s reactor and fired powerful beams that could easily destroy enemy mobile suits. These weapons provided the Juaggu with precision long-range capability to complement the area-effect rockets.
With the mega particle cannons and the triple rocket launchers working in combination, the Juaggu was able to deliver overwhelming firepower against enemy formations. The beam weapons were particularly effective against heavily armoured targets that might resist conventional explosive munitions.
The Juaggu deployed by Zeon remnants in UC 0096 switched out the four mega particle cannons for four beam guns. Powered directly by the Juaggu’s reactor, the beam guns had limited firing range but enhanced energy convergence that allowed for sustained firing, providing a different tactical capability profile.
Optional armaments
The arm-mounted triple rocket launcher could be swapped out for 5-finger manipulators to perform more delicate tasks and potentially use melee weapons. This configuration flexibility allowed the Juaggu to adapt to different mission requirements, though it sacrificed the mobile suit’s primary firepower advantage.
As an alternative to the mega particle cannons, the mobile suit could mount vulcan cannons that replaced the rocket launchers entirely. This configuration provided sustained-fire capability against lighter targets whilst maintaining the precision engagement capability of directed-fire weapons.

Behind the scenes
Okawara Kunio was the original mechanical designer for the MSV series version of the Juaggu, whilst Katoki Hajime redesigned the mobile suit for its animated appearance in Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn.
The Juaggu was originally created as part of the Mobile Suit Variation (MSV) series, which expanded the One Year War mobile suit roster with designs that were theoretically developed but never deployed during the conflict. Its later animated appearance provided an opportunity to modernise the design whilst maintaining its distinctive characteristics.
