MS-06F-2 Zaku II F2 Type

The MS-06F-2 Zaku II F2 Type was a late-production upgrade of the MS-06F Zaku II deployed by the Principality of Zeon in the closing stages of the One Year War. Designed as an improved general-purpose unit with a focus on anti–mobile suit combat, it reduced weight, increased thruster output and fuel efficiency, and introduced a standardised cockpit layout adopted from the Federation’s United Maintenance Plan, making it easier for new pilots to operate.

Compared to earlier Zaku II variants, the F2 Type featured revised chest armour, reinforced cockpit protection, and upgraded thrusters that brought its performance roughly in line with the RGM-79 GM. Its primary armament remained the MMP-78 120 mm machine gun, with optional missile pods for additional firepower. Although produced in limited numbers before Zeon’s defeat, surviving F2 units continued to see service with Zeon remnants and were sometimes captured by the Earth Federation Forces, who repainted them in Federation colours and used them as aggressor and training units.

In Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory, MS-06F-2 machines appear on both sides of the conflict: as part of the Delaz Fleet’s remnant forces and as Federation-operated units during the events leading up to Operation Stardust. Their presence underscores how leftover One Year War hardware continued to shape skirmishes in the early UC 0080s even as newer designs like the GP series came online.
