Mouar Pharaoh
Titans mobile suit pilot and lover of Jerid Messa during the Gryps Conflict.
Mouar Pharaoh was a Second Lieutenant and mobile suit pilot in the Titans, the Earth Federation’s counter-insurgent organisation during the Gryps Conflict. She was best known for being the devoted lover of Jerid Messa, whom she saved at the Second Battle of Jaburo.
Biography
Early life and training
Mouar was trained at the Newtype Institute in Jaburo, where she developed her mobile suit piloting skills. As a member of the Titans, she held the rank of Second Lieutenant and served as a mobile suit pilot during the organisation’s campaign against AEUG forces.
Second Battle of Jaburo
Mouar’s first significant action occurred during the Second Battle of Jaburo, where AEUG forces launched an assault on the Federation stronghold. During the battle, Jerid Messa found himself in mortal peril as a nuclear explosion was about to destroy the base. As an overcrowded escape vessel prepared to depart, leaving Jerid behind, Mouar grabbed hold of his hand and pulled him to safety just as the vessel took off, saving him from the forthcoming nuclear explosion.
Service under Scirocco
Following the Battle of Jaburo, Mouar and Jerid were assigned to serve under Paptimus Scirocco, one of the Titans’ most influential leaders. During this period, their professional relationship evolved into a romantic partnership, with Mouar becoming deeply devoted to Jerid.
Unlike many other Titans members who were drawn to Scirocco’s charismatic leadership, Mouar maintained her independence and resisted his charms. She remained focused on supporting Jerid in his ongoing rivalry with AEUG pilot Kamille Bidan.
Battle campaigns
Mouar and Jerid fought together in numerous engagements against AEUG forces, participating in many battles as a team. Their effectiveness as a battle couple was enhanced by Mouar’s fierce protectiveness of Jerid. She would relentlessly attack any AEUG pilot who gained the upper hand against him, viewing their enemies as threats to both the Titans’ mission and Jerid’s safety.
At one point during their campaigns, the pair nearly succeeded in killing Kamille after recognising him in Von Braun City. However, their assassination attempt was thwarted by Katz Kobayashi, who intervened to save the AEUG pilot.
Final battle and death
Mouar’s final mission came during Operation Apollo, a Titans assault aimed at destroying the AEUG battleship Argama. Captain Gady Kinsey assigned Mouar and Jerid a special task: they were to wait in an abandoned colony and ambush the Argama when it attempted to escape from Yazan Gable’s assault team.
Before launching, Mouar expressed concern about Jerid’s obsession with defeating Kamille, warning him that such fixation was dangerous. To reassure him of her support, she kissed him and promised to protect him during the mission.
During the ensuing battle, Mouar piloted her RX-110 Gabthley alongside Jerid as they engaged AEUG forces. When Kamille in his MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam targeted Jerid with a fatal shot, Mouar intercepted the beam with her own mobile suit. Her Gabthley exploded from the impact, killing her instantly as she sacrificed herself to save the man she loved.
Personality and traits
Mouar was characterised as a calm and reasonable person, particularly when compared to other Titans members who often displayed violent and aggressive tendencies. Her composed demeanour and rational thinking set her apart from the organisation’s more hot-headed officers.
Despite her loyalty to the Titans, Mouar demonstrated independence of thought, notably in her resistance to Paptimus Scirocco’s attempts at seduction and manipulation. She maintained her own moral compass while serving the organisation’s goals.
Her most defining characteristic was her fierce devotion to Jerid Messa. After saving his life at Jaburo, she became completely committed to his wellbeing and success. This devotion manifested in her willingness to attack anyone who threatened him and ultimately in her supreme sacrifice to protect him from Kamille’s attack.
Skills and abilities
As a graduate of the Newtype Institute, Mouar possessed advanced mobile suit piloting skills that made her an effective combat pilot. Her training at the prestigious facility provided her with the technical expertise and tactical knowledge necessary to operate cutting-edge mobile suits like the RX-110 Gabthley.
Mouar demonstrated excellent teamwork abilities, fighting effectively alongside Jerid in numerous engagements. Her tactical awareness and quick reflexes were evident in combat situations, particularly in her ability to provide support and protection to her partner during battle.
Relationships
Jerid Messa
Mouar’s relationship with Jerid Messa began as a professional partnership but evolved into a deep romantic bond. Their connection was forged during the life-or-death moment at the Second Battle of Jaburo, when she risked her own safety to save his life.
Their relationship was characterised by Mouar’s unwavering devotion and protective instincts. She viewed Jerid as someone who could “lead the world on the right path” and supported his ambitions within the Titans organisation. Her concern for his wellbeing often led her to worry about his obsessive rivalry with Kamille, recognising the dangers such fixation posed.
The depth of their bond was demonstrated by her ultimate sacrifice, willingly giving her life to protect him from Kamille’s attack. Even after death, her spirit appeared to Jerid in a vision, encouraging him not to give up and reinforcing her belief in his potential for leadership.
Mecha
RX-110 Gabthley
Mouar’s primary mobile suit was the RX-110 Gabthley, a prototype transformable mobile suit developed by Paptimus Scirocco during the Gryps Conflict. The Gabthley was designed for mass production and featured exceptional performance in both mobile suit and mobile armour modes.
The mobile suit was armed with a powerful Fedayeen rifle, flexible shoulder-mounted mega particle guns, and four beam sabres, making it highly effective in both close and long-range combat. In mobile armour mode, the Gabthley was one of the fastest units in the field, with unique movable frame technology that allowed the mobile suit’s feet to become claws for limited melee and grappling attacks.
Mouar piloted her Gabthley during the final battle with the AEUG, using it to shield Jerid from Kamille’s fatal attack. The mobile suit was destroyed in the explosion that killed her, marking the end of both pilot and machine.
Behind the scenes
Mouar Pharaoh was created as a supporting character for Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, serving as both a romantic interest for Jerid Messa and a representation of the more reasonable elements within the Titans organisation. Her character provided a counterpoint to the extremist elements of the Titans while demonstrating the personal costs of the conflict.
In the original Japanese version, Mouar was voiced by Yoshiko Sakakibara, a veteran voice actress known for her roles as strong female characters. Sakakibara also voiced Haman Karn in the same series. In the compilation films, she was voiced by Marika Hayashi. For the English dub, Jennifer Holder provided Mouar’s voice.
The character’s name “Pharaoh” likely derives from the ancient Egyptian title, fitting with the series’ tendency to use historical and cultural references for character names.
