Mad Angler-class

The Mad Angler-class was a submarine carrier developed by the Principality of Zeon from captured Earth Federation Lockwood-class submarines.

History

In June UC 0079, during the Second Landing Operation, Zeon special forces captured the submarine construction facility at California Base. The base contained eight Lockwood-class submarines that Zeon modified into aquatic mobile suit carriers, designating them as the Mad Angler-class.

Char Aznable operated from a Mad Angler-class vessel while pursuing the White Base across the Atlantic Ocean. His mobile suit team took their name from the submarine class.

In UC 0080, Zeon remnants used a Mad Angler-class vessel in an engagement with the assault carrier Spartan near Antarctica. Some vessels remained in service as late as UC 0096.

In UC 0122, a Mad Angler-class submarine belonging to the Oldsmobile Naval Forces deployed in the Pacific Ocean to intercept the Earth Federation Force’s Garuda-class Garwish. The submarine carried at least three RF Z’Gok mobile suits but was disabled along with its mobile suit squad by the Garwish’s F90 V-Type.

Design

The Mad Angler-class was a massive submarine carrier converted from Earth Federation Lockwood-class submarines. At 300 metres long and 115 metres tall, it had substantial carrying capacity for mobile weapons.

The submarine could accommodate three amphibious mobile suit teams totalling nine units, one MAM-07 Grublo aquatic mobile armor, six Sealance aquatic fighters, and more than three small reconnaissance aircraft.

Armaments

The Mad Angler-class was armed with ten missile launchers and nine torpedo launchers mounted on its main body for ship-to-ship combat.
