LMSD-76 Gray Phantom

The LMSD-76 Gray Phantom was a Pegasus-class assault landing ship operated by the Earth Federation Forces in the Universal Century. Completed late in the One Year War, it combined mobile suit launch facilities with warship-scale firepower and served as one of the Federation’s most advanced carriers of its era.

In Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket, the Gray Phantom formed the core of the Federation garrison at Side 6’s Libot Colony. Its onboard mobile suit team—Scarlet Team—was wiped out by Zeon’s MS-18E Kämpfer during Operation Rubicon, leaving the experimental RX-78NT-1 Gundam “Alex” to repel the attacker. The ship survived the incident but its combat record there was considered humiliating given its capabilities.

By UC 0083 the Gray Phantom appeared at the Federation’s naval review at Confeito during the events of Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory. When the Delaz Fleet executed Operation Stardust with a nuclear attack on the assembled fleet, the Gray Phantom was among the vessels damaged or destroyed; in some accounts, its wreckage later fell to Earth and became a makeshift base for Zeon remnants. The ship’s history illustrates both the rapid evolution of Federation carrier doctrine and the vulnerability of even advanced warships to surprise attacks and political miscalculation.
