The Gunperry was a transport plane produced by the Earth Federation.
History
During the One Year War, the Earth Federation begun the secret Project V to develop mobile weapons, after it received intelligence reports of the mobile suits that the Principality of Zeon was building. The Gunperry was developed as an aircraft with the primary purpose of transporting Project V mobile weapons.
The Federation’s Pegasus-class assault carrierWhite Base carried a Gunperry. It was use mainly to transport the RX-78-2 Gundam, RX-75-4 Guntank. It was also used to transport modules of the Core Block System to the FF-X7 Core Fighter in the battlefield to allow it to transform into the RX-78-2 Gundam.
When the White Base was being pursued by Zeon forces under the command of Garma Zabi, the two sides agreed on a temporary ceasefire to allow the White Base to drop off the civilians who had evacuated from Side 7. The Gunperry was used to transport the civilians to a settlement. The White Base crew saw it as an opportunity to get the Gundam behind enemy lines.
The Gunperry was intentionally damaged to make it look battle worn. It carried the civilian evacuees along with the Gundam in the cargo hold. A Zeon Luggun escorted the Gunperry to a drop-off point behind their defensive line. The Gunperry pilots staged an emergency landing. Smoke bombs were released to make it look like the Gunperry crashed. After the civilians had evacuated, the Gundam launched. When the Zeon forces attacked White Base, the Gundam performed a flank attack to turn the tide of the battle in the favour of the Federation forces.
The White Base was being pursued across the Atlantic Ocean by the forces of Flanagan Boone when the Gunperry launched carrying six high-yield warheads. The Gunperry was able to destroy the Zeon MAM-07 Grabro and the MSM-07 Z’Gok.
Despite its usefulness at the start of the One Year War, the Gunperry had limited effectiveness due to its limited capacity and operational range. The development of mobile suits with improved aerial capabilities and operation duration eventually made the Gunperry unnecessary in the battlefield and it was phased out.
The Federation created a variant with a larger capacity, the CB-X5SGT Gunperry Assault Type.
