Key mecha

The Thunderbolt Sector conflict was defined by two iconic opposing mobile suits—the heavily armed FA-78 Full Armor Gundam and the experimental MS-06R Psycho Zaku. Both represented radical departures from standard mobile suit design, optimised for the unique challenges of combat in a debris field.

Moore Brotherhood

The Moore Brotherhood, comprised of survivors from the destroyed Side 4 colonies, deployed both standard Earth Federation mobile suits and heavily customised variants designed for the dangerous Thunderbolt Sector environment.

Gundam units

Prototype and custom Gundam units formed the spearhead of the Moore Brotherhood’s assault forces.

Federation mobile suits

Standard and modified Federation mobile suits provided the backbone of the Moore Brotherhood’s forces.

Living Dead Division

The Living Dead Division, a Principality of Zeon unit composed of amputee soldiers, operated advanced experimental mobile suits designed to interface with prosthetic limbs and neural control systems.

Experimental units

Cutting-edge mobile suits equipped with the revolutionary Reuse “P” Device technology.

Design philosophy

The mobile suits in Gundam Thunderbolt reflected the harsh realities of combat in the debris-filled Thunderbolt Sector. Most units featured:

  • Heavy external armour to protect against debris impacts
  • Additional thrusters for enhanced manoeuvrability in zero gravity
  • Extensive weaponry mounted externally for sustained combat
  • Sealed joints and systems protected by flexible covers
  • Enhanced sensor suites for navigation in the debris field

The series showcased how the environment of war shaped mobile suit design, with both sides adapting their machines to survive in one of the most dangerous battlefields of the One Year War.
