MSM-04 Acguy Firepower Type
Custom amphibious mobile suit used by Zeon remnants in UC 0080.
The MSM-04 Acguy Firepower Type was a custom amphibious mobile suit used by Zeon remnants during operations in the South Seas Alliance in August UC 0080. It was a specialised variant of the standard MSM-04 Acguy.
The “MS” in the model code referred to it being a mobile suit, while the “M” identified it as an amphibious model. The “04” indicated it was based on the fourth design in the MSM line, with “Firepower Type” denoting its enhanced weapons configuration.
History
The Principality of Zeon’s standard amphibious MSM-04 Acguy saw wide use on Earth during the One Year War in UC 0079. It continued to see use after the war with Zeon remnants committed to fighting the Earth Federation Forces.
In August UC 0080, Zeon remnants deployed a specially outfitted Acguy team under the command of Daryl Lorenz to retrieve a spy embedded in the South Seas Alliance. Two custom units, known as the Acguy Firepower Types, featured back units loaded with mines and weapon cluster units replacing standard arms. The two units were designated Type A and Type B, each with different weapon configurations.
The mission went awry when the Acguy team was spotted by civilians, which led to combat against the Alliance’s SRf-06 Dahles mobile suits.
Design
The Acguy Firepower Type retained the basic design of the standard MSM-04 Acguy, with its dual Minovsky fusion reactor system providing efficient power output while maintaining low heat signatures ideal for covert operations. The mobile suit featured interchangeable forearms, allowing for mission-specific weapon configurations.
The most significant modification was the addition of a minelaying unit mounted on the backpack, which included 40 mines for area denial and defensive operations. This system was part of what was called the “Rear Guard System,” intended to buy time for friendly forces during retreats.
Both Type A and Type B variants replaced one arm each with a weapon cluster unit encased in purge-able waterproof panels, similar to those used on the MSM-03C Hygogg’s hand missile units. These panels could be jettisoned when the mobile suit surfaced from underwater operations.
Armaments
The Acguy Firepower Type’s standard weapons were vulcan guns for point defence and a mega particle cannon for ranged combat, supplemented by specialised weapon cluster units.
105 mm vulcan guns
Four fire-linked 105 mm vulcan guns were mounted in the Acguy Firepower Type’s head. These rapid-fire weapons were primarily used against lightly armoured support units, though sustained fire could damage mobile suits and were often used in close-distance combat. They also served as effective missile defence systems.
Mega particle cannon
Mounted in the right forearm, the mega particle cannon provided the Acguy Firepower Type with considerable firepower against enemy mobile suits. This beam weapon could penetrate most contemporary armour and was effective at medium to long ranges.
Minelaying unit
The backpack-mounted minelaying unit included 40 mines that could be deployed for area denial operations. This system, designated as the “Rear Guard System,” was specifically designed to provide defensive coverage during tactical withdrawals or to secure strategic positions.
Weapon cluster unit
The Acguy Firepower Type featured two different weapon cluster unit configurations:
Type A weapon cluster unit included:
- 120 mm machine gun (same type used by Zaku mobile suits)
- TOW missile launcher (wire-guided missiles effective against mobile suits)
- Anti-MS bayonet (for close combat)
Type B weapon cluster unit included:
- 120 mm machine gun
- Flamethrower (effective against infantry and light vehicles)
- Anti-MS bola (wire weapon for entangling enemy mobile suits)
Both weapon cluster units were encased in waterproof panels that could be purged when the mobile suit surfaced, allowing immediate access to the weapons systems.

Behind the scenes
The Acguy Firepower Type appeared in the Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt manga by Yasuo Ohtagaki and its subsequent ONA adaptation. It represented the continued evolution of amphibious mobile suit technology in the post-One Year War period.
The design showcased the resourcefulness of Zeon remnant forces in adapting existing mobile suits for specialised missions, utilising modular weapon systems to enhance combat capabilities.
