The Garencieres Jr was a space freighter operated by the Republic of Zeon in UC 0097 during the Phoenix Hunt incident. The vessel served as a replacement for the original Garencieres, which had been destroyed during the Laplace Incident a year earlier, and was captained by Suberoa Zinnerman.
History
Following the destruction of the original Garencieres during the climax of the Laplace Incident in UC 0096, the Republic of Zeon constructed a replacement vessel designated Garencieres Jr The “Jr.” suffix in its name denoted its status as the successor to the original ship.
Phoenix Hunt Incident
In UC 0097, one year after the opening of Laplace’s Box, the Garencieres Jr was deployed during the Phoenix Hunt incident involving the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 03 Phenex. Unlike the original vessel’s covert operations under the Sleeves banner, the Garencieres Jr operated openly under the authority of the Republic of Zeon.
The vessel was commanded by Suberoa Zinnerman, the same captain who had led the original Garencieres during the Third Neo Zeon War. Now operating under Mineva Zabi’s authority, Zinnerman and his crew served the Republic of Zeon’s interests during the crisis surrounding the rogue Phenex Gundam.
Support Operations
During the Phoenix Hunt incident, the Garencieres Jr served as a support vessel for Banagher Links, the former pilot of the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam. The vessel transported the ARX-014S Silver Bullet Suppressor, a custom mobile suit equipped with a beam magnum specifically designed for Banagher’s use.
When the situation escalated and Zoltan Akkanen launched the NZ-999 II Neo Zeong mobile armor, Banagher deployed from the Garencieres Jr in the Silver Bullet Suppressor to provide crucial support during the final battle. The veteran pilot’s intervention proved vital in containing the destructive threat posed by the II Neo Zeong and its unstable pilot.
Design
The Garencieres Jr was constructed as an identical replacement for the original Garencieres, maintaining the same dimensions and operational capabilities. The vessel retained the trans-atmospheric design that had made its predecessor so valuable for operations requiring movement between space and planetary surfaces.
Specifications
Like its predecessor, the Garencieres Jr measured 146.0 metres in overall height and 112.0 metres in overall length. The vessel maintained the same basic freighter configuration that allowed it to operate inconspicuously whilst carrying military equipment and mobile suits.
Mobile Suit Operations
The Garencieres Jr retained the capacity to carry up to four mobile suits, making it an effective covert carrier for special operations. During the Phoenix Hunt incident, the vessel’s primary cargo was the Silver Bullet Suppressor, a highly advanced mobile suit customised specifically for Banagher Links’ piloting style and experience.
The vessel’s hangar and launch systems were designed to accommodate various mobile suit types, from standard Republic of Zeon units to the specialised Earth Federation technology represented by the Silver Bullet Suppressor.
Command Structure
Under Zinnerman’s leadership, the Garencieres Jr operated with many of the same crew members who had served aboard the original vessel. This continuity provided operational efficiency and maintained the strong bonds of loyalty that had characterised the original ship’s crew during their service with the Sleeves.
The crew’s transition from Neo Zeon remnants to Republic of Zeon personnel reflected the broader political changes that had occurred following the revelation of Laplace’s Box and the recognition of Newtype rights in the Universal Century Charter.

Behind the scenes
The Garencieres Jr was designed for Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative by the same design team responsible for the original vessel, maintaining visual and functional continuity with its predecessor. The ship’s designation as “Jr.” reflected the narrative need to show the continuation of Zinnerman’s story whilst acknowledging the destruction of the original vessel.
The decision to have the same crew and captain return in an identical vessel emphasised the themes of continuity and change that ran throughout Gundam Narrative, as former Neo Zeon remnants now served the legitimate Republic of Zeon under Mineva Zabi’s leadership.
