AMX-015 Geymalk

The AMX-015 Geymalk was a mass production Newtype use heavy mobile suit developed by Neo Zeon in the final weeks of the First Neo Zeon War. It featured an unprecedented remote weapon system and was one of the most heavily armed mobile suits of its era.

The “AMX” in the model code indicated it was an Axis mobile experimental design, with “015” denoting it was the fifteenth design in the series. The “Geymalk” codename is derived from the German “Geimark”, meaning “vulture mark”.

History

A Newtype and Cyber Newtype use mobile suit intended for mass production in the last weeks of the First Neo Zeon War, the AMX-015 Geymalk was one of the pinnacles of Neo Zeon’s Newtype weaponry development.

The Geymalk was intended for mass production, but only one unit was known to have been built by the final weeks of the First Neo Zeon War. It was piloted by Haman Karn loyalist and unstable Cyber Newtype Chara Soon in January of UC 0089, while Neo Zeon was being torn apart by internal conflicts between Haman loyalists and Glemy Toto’s splinter faction.

Chara Soon demonstrated the Geymalk’s abilities when she almost single-handedly destroyed an entire squadron of powerful, genetically engineered Ple clone pilots operating funnel-equipped AMX-004G Qubeley Mass Production Types.

During the final battle, Chara’s Geymalk took on around six AMX-004G Qubeley Mass Production Types and destroyed them all, with the Geymalk itself exploding after crashing into the last Qubeley Mass Production Type in a kamikaze attack.

Following the war, Neo Zeon remnants further developed the Geymalk’s concept into the AMX-015-4S Dag Doll.

Design

In terms of firepower alone, the Geymalk was one of the most heavily armed mobile suits of its time, with over 20 beam weapons mounted on a single, regular-sized mobile suit body. The mobile suit was also equipped with a psycommu system, allowing its Newtype pilot to control its two large mother funnels and 28 child funnels.

The Geymalk featured Gundarium alloy armour and was powered by a Minovsky type ultracompact fusion reactor with an unprecedented output of 8,320 kW—one of the highest power outputs ever achieved by a mobile suit of its era.

The mobile suit had its cockpit located in the head rather than the torso, featuring a panoramic monitor and linear seat. This unusual placement provided the pilot with excellent visibility while operating the complex remote weapon systems.

The Geymalk’s most distinctive feature was its sophisticated remote weapon system consisting of mother funnels and child funnels, creating a two-tier remote attack capability unprecedented in mobile suit development.

Armaments

The Geymalk featured an overwhelming array of beam weapons integrated throughout its frame, making it one of the most heavily armed mobile suits ever constructed.

Hyper mega particle cannon

The Geymalk’s most powerful beam weapon was the hyper mega particle cannon mounted in the centre of the torso. With a power rating of 30.5 MW, it was one of the strongest beam weapons used by a mobile suit during the First Neo Zeon War.

Mega particle gun

A mega particle cannon with a power rating of 6.2 MW was mounted in the pelvis, providing additional heavy firepower for anti-ship engagements.

2-barrel mega particle cannon

Lining the sides of the Geymalk’s hyper mega particle gun were a pair of twin mega particle cannons with a power rating of 4.5 MW each.

Triple mega particle cannon

The Geymalk mounted a pair of triple mega particle cannons with a power rating of 4.0 MW. They were built into the Geymalk’s hands as “mitten” fingers. These fingers/mega particle guns served poorly as manipulators, leaving the Geymalk unable to perform delicate tasks.

Twin beam launcher

The Geymalk was equipped with a pair of twin beam launchers, one mounted in each shoulder, with a power rating of 2.3 MW each.

Mega beam cannon

The Geymalk featured two mega beam cannons in the legs, below the beam saber’s knee storage rack, each with a power rating of 3.8 MW. During use, the cannons rose up and extended.

Beam saber

The mobile suit carried two beam sabers with a power rating of 0.45 MW each, stored in recharge racks in the knees. Due to the Geymalk’s “mitten” hands, these were primarily backup weapons.

Mother funnel

The Geymalk mounts a pair of large remote weapons known as mother funnels on its backpack. Though referred to as “funnels”, these weapons were technologically “bits” as they possessed their own power reactor. Both mother funnels were equipped with a single mega particle gun and served as carrying pods and recharge stations for 14 smaller child funnels each.

Child funnel

The Geymalk could deploy up to 28 child funnels (14 per mother funnel) for all-range attacks. The pilot’s commands were transmitted via a large psycommu control antenna on the Geymalk’s head to the mother funnels, which relayed the commands to the child funnels. This two-tier system allowed for extremely long-range remote attacks.

Behind the scenes

The Geymalk was designed by Nagano Mamoru and represented the ultimate expression of Neo Zeon’s Newtype weapon technology. The design philosophy emphasised overwhelming firepower over conventional mobile suit versatility.
