Allen Schezar

Allen Schezar (アレン・シェザール) is a main character in The Vision of Escaflowne, the greatest knight of the kingdom of Asturia and a Heavenly Knight (Knights Caeli). He pilots the Sky Knight Guymelef Scherazade—an Asturian unit armed with a rapier and fought in a knightly, graceful style—and commands the Crusade ship.

Allen is a chivalrous, patient fighter who contrasts with the more impulsive Van Fanel; he also develops feelings for Hitomi Kanzaki, who is struck by his resemblance to her crush back on Earth. His past is marked by loss: his father was killed by Zaibach seeking Atlantis, his mother died of grief, and his sister Celena was taken by Zaibach and transformed into the antagonist Dilandau. Allen’s arc ties Asturia’s fate to the fight against Zaibach and to the series’ themes of duty and love.
