Van Fanel

Van Fanel (ヴァン・ファーネル) is the male protagonist of The Vision of Escaflowne, the young king of Fanelia and the destined pilot of the legendary Escaflowne. During a ritual he is drawn to Earth, where he fights a dragon and is saved by Hitomi Kanzaki; she is pulled back with him to Gaea.

Van leads his kingdom’s resistance against Zaibach and Emperor Dornkirk, relying on Escaflowne—the white Guymelef that awakens only for his bloodline—and on Hitomi’s clairvoyant visions. His arc explores duty, loss, and the choice to change fate through will and love.
