Absolute Terror Fields (AT Fields)
Absolute Terror Fields (AT Fields) are the defensive barriers that both the Angels and the Evangelion units deploy in the Evangelion franchise. They can block physical and energy attacks and must be overcome or neutralised for combat to succeed. In the series’ symbolism, the AT Field also represents the emotional barriers between people—the “walls of the heart” that prevent true connection, tying into the theme of the hedgehog’s dilemma.
AT Fields are central to the lore of Neon Genesis Evangelion and the Rebuild of Evangelion films.
