ZMT-S33S Gottrlatan

The ZMT-S33S Gottrlatan was one of the last experimental mobile suits introduced by BESPA near the end of the Zanscare War in UC 0153. Designed as a high-performance, all-purpose unit, the Gottrlatan was capable of both devastating long-range strikes and close combat, making it one of the most formidable mobile suits fielded by the Zanscare Empire.

Development and design

The Gottrlatan was developed as an experimental mobile suit that specialised in close combat whilst maintaining the ability to deliver devastating long-range firepower. The mobile suit featured a robust design with enhanced armour protection and a powerful reactor to support its varied weapons systems.

One of the Gottrlatan’s most distinctive features was its ability to dock with a specialised mega beam cannon. This massive weapon, when deployed in its cannon form firing configuration, was capable of destroying scores of mobile suits or even several battleships with a single shot. The cannon system represented the pinnacle of Zanscare Empire beam weapon technology.

For close combat operations, the Gottrlatan was equipped with unique beam tonfas mounted in its forearms and a large beam cutter blade mounted on its head. This combination of weapons allowed the mobile suit to excel in melee combat whilst maintaining defensive capabilities through its dual beam shields.

Armament

The ZMT-S33S Gottrlatan boasted one of the most comprehensive weapons loadouts of any late-war mobile suit.

Fixed armaments

Beam shields

The Gottrlatan mounted dual beam shields in its hands, providing exceptional defensive capabilities against both beam and physical attacks. The beam shields could also be used as offensive weapons for ramming attacks.

Beam cutter

Mounted on the head, this large beam blade served as both a distinctive visual feature and a potent close-combat weapon capable of cutting through enemy armour.

Beam tonfas

Perhaps the most unique weapons in the Gottrlatan’s arsenal, these beam tonfas were mounted in the forearms but could be removed and hand-carried for use. The tonfas provided excellent close-combat capabilities and could be used for both offensive strikes and defensive blocks.

Optional armaments

Mega beam cannon

The signature weapon of the Gottrlatan, this massive beam cannon was mounted on backpack hardpoints. When deployed, the barrel fitted over the head and torso in the “cannon form” firing configuration, transforming the mobile suit into a devastating long-range artillery platform. The weapon’s firepower was sufficient to destroy multiple enemy units or capital ships with a single well-aimed shot.

Micro-missile pods

Two 6-tube micro-missile pods could be mounted on the optional mega beam cannon, but could only be fired whilst in the “cannon form” configuration. These provided additional anti-mobile suit firepower to complement the main cannon.

Beam rifle

For standard ranged combat, the Gottrlatan could carry a beam rifle powered by a rechargeable energy capacitor, providing reliable medium-range firepower when the mega beam cannon was not required.

Operational history

Only one Gottrlatan unit was known to have been built, and it was piloted by former League Militaire supporter-turned-traitor Katejina Loos. Katejina used this deadly mobile suit to destroy countless League Militaire and Earth Federation Forces units during the latter stages of the Zanscare War.

The Gottrlatan proved to be an exceptionally effective weapon in Katejina’s hands, combining her piloting skills with the mobile suit’s devastating firepower. The combination of long-range bombardment capability and close-combat prowess made the Gottrlatan a significant threat to enemy forces.

Final battle

In the war’s final battle, Katejina and her Gottrlatan faced Uso Ewin in his LM314V21 Victory 2 Gundam. Despite the Gottrlatan’s formidable capabilities, Uso was ultimately able to defeat both mobile suit and pilot. The battle resulted in Katejina being left both amnesiac and blind, marking the end of the Gottrlatan’s brief but destructive service record.

Known pilots

Katejina Loos
The former League Militaire supporter who became a traitor and joined the Zanscare Empire. Katejina was the sole known pilot of the Gottrlatan, using her considerable piloting skills and the mobile suit’s devastating firepower to destroy countless enemy units during the final stages of the Zanscare War.

Variants

No known variants of the ZMT-S33S Gottrlatan were produced. The mobile suit remained a unique prototype throughout its operational history.

Behind the scenes

The ZMT-S33S Gottrlatan was designed by Ishigaki Junya for Mobile Suit Victory Gundam. The mobile suit served as one of the final and most powerful enemy mobile suits in the series, befitting its role as Katejina Loos’s personal machine during the climactic battles.

The name “Gottrlatan” appears to be derived from Germanic or Norse linguistic elements, fitting with the series’ European setting and the Zanscare Empire’s cultural influences. The distinctive beam tonfas represented a unique weapon concept rarely seen in other Gundam series.

Director Tomino Yoshiyuki intended the Gottrlatan to represent the pinnacle of Zanscare Empire mobile suit technology, combining both overwhelming firepower and close-combat capabilities in a single unit. The mobile suit’s design philosophy reflected the escalating nature of the conflict as it reached its conclusion.
