BESPA
Military arm of the Zanscare Empire and main antagonistic force in Victory Gundam.
BESPA (ベスパ, Besupa), formally Ballistic Equipment & Space Patrol Armory, was the military arm of the Zanscare Empire and the main antagonistic force in Mobile Suit Victory Gundam. The acronym was chosen to evoke the Italian/Latin word for wasp (vespa). BESPA operated alongside the Zanscare Royal Guard as the empire’s primary armed force during the Zanscare War in UC 0153.
Origins
BESPA was established in UC 0149 when the Zanscare Empire absorbed and reorganised Earth Federation forces stationed at Side 2 and incorporated elements of Sanary, a research institution. The organisation was headquartered in Amelia on Side 2 and maintained facilities including the Largane base on Earth, the Super-Psyco Research Institute, and Neo Cartagena on the Moon.
Role and capabilities
As the Zanscare Empire’s military and arms developer, BESPA fielded mass-production and elite mobile suits such as the Zolo, Zoloat, Tomliat, Shokew, Rig Shokew, Gottrlatan, and Gengaozo. Its Yellow Jacket division conducted Earth-side testing. BESPA led the empire’s invasion of Earth and employed harsh tactics to control occupied populations.
