Sweet Water

Sweet Water (スイートウォーター, Suītowōtā), also spelled Sweetwater, was a space colony that appeared in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack. It was originally built and controlled by the Earth Federation and later came under the control of Newborn Neo Zeon.

Role in Char’s Counterattack

Sweet Water served as a refugee colony. Char Aznable and his comrades visited it after their mission to Londenion, where the peace conference had been held. The colony’s depiction in the film—a rotating structure in space—was among the first uses of computer graphics in a Gundam production.

Location

Sources differ on Sweet Water’s exact position: it is commonly described as on the outskirts of Side 5 or near Lagrange Point 2 close to Side 3. Yoshiyuki Tomino’s novelisations sometimes place it on the outer edge of Side 5, or as an isolated colony in the space opposite the Moon, separate from the main colony clusters.

Behind the scenes

Sweet Water was created for Char’s Counterattack as a staging location for Char’s forces and to showcase early CG in the franchise.
