Side 3
Space colony cluster that served as the capital of Zeon.
Side 3, also known as Munzo, was a space colony cluster located at Lagrange point L2 behind the Moon. It served as the capital of the various incarnations of Zeon, from the Autonomous Republic through to the Republic of Zeon.
Description
Side 3 was unique among the colony clusters for exclusively using “closed-type” colonies, which eschewed glass sky panels in favour of maximising residential capacity. Notable colonies included:

Zum City
The cluster’s capital colony, renamed after Zeon Zum Deikun, housed most of Side 3’s government institutions and bureaucratic headquarters.
Colony 38 Mahal
This colony was evacuated in September UC 0079 for conversion into the Solar Ray colony laser weapon, incorporating solar batteries collected from other colonies.
History
Rise of Zeon
In UC 0052, Zeon Zum Deikun began spreading his philosophy of Contolism from Side 3, advocating for the sanctity of Earth and colonial independence. His Zeon Party gained control of the Autonomous Republic of Munzo, which was subsequently renamed the Autonomous Republic of Zeon.
After Deikun’s death in UC 0068, Degwin Zabi assumed leadership and transformed Side 3 into the Principality of Zeon. The Zabi family purged Deikun’s supporters and began massive military preparations.
One Year War
During the One Year War, Colony 38 Mahal was converted into the Solar Ray weapon. Gihren Zabi used this weapon to disrupt peace negotiations between his father and Federation General Revil, destroying a third of the Federation fleet in the process.
After the war, Prime Minister Darcia Bakharov negotiated Side 3’s continued independence as the Republic of Zeon. The Colony Reclamation Project added new colonies in UC 0082 and UC 0083 to address overcrowding.
First Neo Zeon War
The Republic provided Core 3 colony to Neo Zeon for Haman Karn’s use during the civil war with Glemy Toto. The colony was destroyed when the asteroids Axis and Moussa collided with it.
Side 3 rejoined the Federation in UC 0100. A non-militant group of Neo Zeon remnants remained in the desolate Zebra Zone region of the cluster.
