RX-0 Full Armor Unicorn Gundam
Full armor variant of the prototype psychoframe mobile suit.
The RX-0 Full Armor Unicorn Gundam was a full armor configuration of the prototype full psychoframe mobile suit developed by Anaheim Electronics for Londo Bell.
The “R” in the model code meant it was a Federation model1 and the “X” indicated that it was an experimental mobile suit. The “0” in the model code denoted that it was part of the revolutionary RX-0 series. The “Full Armor” designation indicated its heavily armed configuration.
History
In preparation for the final battle against Neo Zeon in UC 0096, Banagher Links’ friend and mobile suit fanatic Takuya Irei conceived the plan for the RX-0 Full Armor Unicorn Gundam. With assistance from Anaheim Electronics engineer Aaron Terzieff, the Unicorn Gundam was loaded with every type of equipment available on the Nahel Argama.
The Full Armor configuration was hastily assembled aboard the Nahel Argama as the ship prepared for the final confrontation with Full Frontal and his massive mobile armor NZ-999 Neo Zeong. The upgrade was completed just in time for the climactic battle at the Industrial 7 colony.
Despite the extra equipment significantly increasing the mobile suit’s firepower and operational time, the Full Armor Unicorn Gundam was still capable of transforming into Destroy mode unencumbered. The additional armaments proved crucial in the final battle against the overwhelming firepower of the Neo Zeong.
Design
The Full Armor Unicorn Gundam retained the base specifications and capabilities of the standard RX-0 Unicorn Gundam, including its full psychoframe construction, NT-D System, and transformation capability between Unicorn and Destroy modes.
Two external propellant tanks were attached to extend the suit’s operating time in space combat. Despite the “Full Armor” moniker, this configuration was mainly comprised of additional armaments rather than protective armor plating. The extensive weapons loadout included multiple beam Gatling guns, hyper bazookas, shields, and various missile and grenade launchers.
The mobile suit retained its standard cockpit in the torso with panoramic monitor and linear seat. All the additional equipment was mounted externally and could be jettisoned if necessary to restore the mobile suit’s original mobility characteristics.
Armaments
The Full Armor Unicorn Gundam’s armament represented the pinnacle of Federation mobile suit firepower, combining the standard Unicorn Gundam weapons with an extensive array of additional heavy weapons.
Beam magnum
The BAUVA*XBR-M-79-07G beam magnum remained the primary weapon, providing devastating firepower equivalent to battleship-class beam cannons. Each E-cap magazine contained 16 shots of incredible destructive power.
Vulcan guns
The standard pair of 60 mm vulcan guns mounted in the head provided point defence against missiles and light targets.
Beam sabers
Four beam sabers were available—two in the forearms accessible in both modes, and two in the backpack accessible only in Destroy Mode. These could also function as beam tonfas when the forearm-mounted sabers were flipped over.
Hyper bazookas
Two 380 mm hyper bazookas provided heavy firepower against armored targets. Each bazooka could fire various ammunition types including regular rounds and scattershot rounds. The rail-mounted design allowed for additional grenade or missile launchers to be attached.
Beam Gatling guns
Six beam Gatling guns were mounted across the mobile suit’s frame, providing sustained rapid-fire beam weaponry. These weapons offered superior rate of fire compared to standard beam rifles, though with reduced per-shot power.
Shields
Three shields provided comprehensive defensive coverage. Each shield mounted an I-field generator for defence against beam attacks and could also serve as weapon platforms for additional armaments.
Missile and grenade launchers
Multiple missile and grenade launchers were mounted throughout the mobile suit’s frame, providing area-effect firepower and anti-ship capabilities. The exact number and configuration varied depending on mission requirements.
External propellant tanks
Two external propellant tanks significantly extended the mobile suit’s operational endurance in space combat, allowing for extended engagements without refueling.

Behind the scenes
Katoki Hajime was the original mechanical designer. The design was based on the Full Armor RX-0 Unicorn Gundam from the Gundam Unicorn novels.
The Full Armor configuration exemplified the “kitchen sink” approach to mobile suit armament, incorporating virtually every weapon system available aboard the Nahel Argama. This reflected the desperate nature of the final battle against the overwhelmingly powerful Neo Zeong.
