OZ-07MS Tragos
Ground-based artillery support with optional hover unit.
The OZ-07MS Tragos was a ground-based artillery support mobile suit developed by OZ based on the OZ-06MS Leo in After Colony 195. Designed for support operations, the Tragos generally had better performance than the Leo in ground environments, except for melee combat capability. Its legs could be fitted with an optional hover unit for enhanced mobility on flat terrain, though on uneven terrain inaccessible by the hover unit, the Tragos reverted to its original bipedal mobile suit form, resulting in a drop in mobility.
Overview
The Tragos represented OZ’s effort to create specialized variants of the Leo for specific combat roles. Where the Leo served as a general-purpose mobile suit, the Tragos focused on artillery support with enhanced firepower through shoulder-mounted cannons. The hover unit attachment transformed the Tragos into a high-speed ground assault platform on flat terrain, sacrificing the bipedal versatility of standard mobile suits for increased mobility in appropriate environments.
Unlike most OZ-produced mobile suits named after zodiac signs or constellations, “Tragos” meant “Goat” in Greek. However, it could be considered a substitute for the tenth zodiac sign Capricorn, meaning “Sea-goat.” The zodiac sign Capricorn eventually received its own non-animated mobile suit, the OZ-11MS Capricorn.
Armament
Beam Rifle
The light armament of the Tragos. The particle beam fired from a beam rifle could penetrate almost any armor that had not been treated with specific countermeasures. This standard beam rifle provided the Tragos with anti-mobile suit capabilities whilst its primary role was artillery support.
Cannons
The heavy armament of the Tragos. Two cannons could be mounted, one on each shoulder, providing significant artillery firepower. These cannons gave the Tragos its primary support role, allowing it to bombard enemy positions from range whilst mobile suits like the Leo engaged in direct combat.
Special equipment
Hover Unit
An optional propulsion system could be attached over the Tragos’ legs for enhanced mobility and speed on flat terrain. This hover unit transformed the mobile suit into a high-speed ground assault platform, utilizing what appeared to be ducted fans or similar propulsion technology for movement across level surfaces.
The hover unit could be jettisoned if not needed in combat, allowing the Tragos to revert to its bipedal mobile suit form. This flexibility allowed the Tragos to adapt to changing terrain conditions—using the hover unit for rapid deployment across plains and reverting to bipedal mode for navigation through forests, urban environments, or mountainous regions.
Operational history
The Tragos saw deployment throughout AC 195 during OZ’s operations against Gundam forces and in various conflicts. Its artillery support role made it valuable for sieges and assaults on fortified positions, where its shoulder cannons could provide sustained fire whilst more manoeuvrable units engaged enemy mobile suits.
The hover unit configuration proved particularly effective in desert and plains environments, where the Tragos could maintain high speed whilst delivering artillery fire. However, the unit’s reduced effectiveness in melee combat compared to the Leo made it vulnerable to close-quarters engagement, requiring escort by standard combat mobile suits.
Variants
Tragos II
Introduced in the novel New Mobile Report Gundam Wing: Frozen Teardrop, the Tragos II was a version of the Tragos designed for battle on the lunar surface. This variant adapted the original’s ground-support role for the low-gravity environment of Earth’s moon, likely featuring modified propulsion systems and structural reinforcements for lunar operations.
