The Negotiator in the The Big O franchise is the profession of Roger Smith—Paradigm City’s top conflict resolver. Roger embodies the classic private detective archetype whilst piloting the megadeus Big O; episodes shift between intimate investigation and spectacular mechanical combat. He is assisted by R. Dorothy Wayneright and butler Norman Burg. The role allows the series to explore urban decay, corporate corruption, and existential uncertainty through both personal and citywide scales.
