MS-14Fs Cima Garahau's Gelgoog Marine

The MS-14Fs Cima Garahau’s Gelgoog Marine was a commander type space combat mobile suit developed by Zeonic for the Principality of Zeon during the final weeks of the One Year War.

The “MS” in the model code meant it was a mobile suit, the “14” indicated it was from the Gelgoog series, the “F” stood for Marine, and the “s” designated it as a special commander type unit.

History

An improved version of the MS-14F Gelgoog Marine, the MS-14Fs first appeared in the last days of the One Year War. It was only a mild improvement over the standard F-type; the only real differences were an increase in thruster output, speed and maneuverability (including improved cooling systems to deal with the additional heat), as well as the addition of a pair of head-mounted 40mm vulcan guns, a heavy beam rifle, and a large shield similar to that of the original MS-14A Gelgoog.

However, its cost performance was poor compared to the standard F-type, and the Fs-type saw very limited production. It was unknown how many of these units survived the war, although at least one unit was used by Cima Garahau during the Delaz Fleet’s Operation Stardust in late UC 0083. The unit was also piloted by Clara Lodge on at least one occasion.

Design

The MS-14Fs was designed as an enhanced commander variant of the successful Gelgoog Marine. The mobile suit measured 19.2 meters in head height (20.2 meters overall) and weighed 40.5 metric tons empty, with a maximum gross weight of 80.0 metric tons. Despite being lighter than the base F-type, it featured improved performance characteristics.

It was constructed from super hard steel alloy armor and powered by a Minovsky type ultracompact fusion reactor with an enhanced output of 1,490 kW. The propulsion system consisted of rocket thrusters with a total output of 89,500 kg (3 x 20,500 kg, 4 x 7,000 kg), giving it an improved 180-degree turn time of 1.5 seconds.

The enhanced thruster output provided superior speed and maneuverability compared to the standard Marine variant, though this came at the cost of increased fuel consumption and requiring improved cooling systems.

Armaments

The MS-14Fs featured enhanced armament over the standard Gelgoog Marine, befitting its commander role.

40 mm vulcan guns

2 x 40mm vulcan gun, mounted in head. These head-mounted weapons were an addition not found on the standard Gelgoog Marine, providing enhanced close-range defensive capability and anti-aircraft fire.

110 mm machine cannons

2 x 110mm machine cannon, mounted in forearms. Like the standard Gelgoog Marine, the MS-14Fs retained the effective forearm-mounted machine cannons that were highly effective against most mobile suit armor at close range.

Beam sabers

2 x beam saber, stored in recharge racks in hip armor, hand-carried in use. These standard beam weapons used I-field technology to contain Minovsky particles within the shape of a blade for close combat.

Heavy beam rifle

The MS-14Fs was equipped with a heavy beam rifle with enhanced firepower compared to standard beam rifles. This weapon was capable of rapid firing due to a forced cooling mechanism, and featured a drum magazine-type energy pack.

Shield

The shield mounts chaff/flare dispensers, can be mounted on either forearm. Unlike the knuckle shield of the standard Marine variant, the MS-14Fs used a large shield similar to that of the original MS-14A Gelgoog, providing superior protection and additional defensive systems.

Behind the scenes

The MS-14Fs was designed by Mika Akitaka for Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory as Cima Garahau’s personal mobile suit.
