Me02R-F02c Messer Type-F02 (Commander Type)
Commander type heavy mobile suit produced by Anaheim Electronics.
The Me02R-F02c Messer Type-F02 (Commander Type) was a commander type heavy mobile suit produced by Anaheim Electronics for the anti-Earth Federation military group Mafty.
The “Me” in the model code means it was a Messer design and the “02” indicated it was the second design. The “R” meant it was designed for reconnaissance use. The “F02c” designated it as the Type-F02 Commander variant with additional features for command operations.
History
The Me02R-F02c Messer Type-F02 (Commander Type) was developed as a variant of the Me02R-F02 Messer Type-F02 to provide Mafty forces with enhanced command and control capabilities. The Commander Type appears to be the Type-F Naked equipped with the same add-on equipment as the standard Me02R-F02 Messer Type-F02.
The mobile suit was expected to appear in the planned sequel Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: Sun of Bright, though specific deployment details remain classified.
Design
Anaheim Electronics developed the Me02R-F02c from Neo Zeon mobile suits AMS-119 Geara Doga and MSN-04 Sazabi. The Commander Type retained the typical Zeon design elements such as a mono-eye, rounded silhouette and spiked shoulder armor.
The Messer Type-F02 Commander Type featured thick Gundarium alloy armor that provided heavy protection while remaining relatively lightweight. Unlike the standard Type-F02, it incorporated additional lifting flare components on the legs to assist with hovering operations.
The mobile suit had a cockpit located in the head with a panoramic monitor and linear seat. The head featured a distinctive antenna for improved communications, reflecting its command role. Its standard sensors gave it a detection range of up to 19,300 metres.
It was powered by an ultracompact Minovsky power plant that generated an output of 3,340 kW. The mobile suit had an array of rocket thrusters that generated 80,000 kg of thrust, providing high manoeuvrability and mobility despite its heavy armor.
Armaments
The Messer Type-F02 Commander Type’s standard weapons were six vulcan guns for close-range combat and two beam sabers for melee combat.
Vulcan guns
Three pairs of fire-linked gatling vulcan guns were mounted on either side of the Messer Type-F02 Commander Type’s head, for a total of six guns. They were used for restricting enemy movements, creating a barrage, intercepting missiles, and other defensive operations.
The vulcan guns were used primarily against light-armored support units. Sustained fire from the guns could damage mobile suits and were often used in close distance combat. They also served as effective missile defence systems.
Beam sabers
The Messer Type-F02 Commander Type carried two beam sabers for melee combat. These were the same type as those used by the RGM-89 Jegan Type-A. The beam blades only extended during melee combat.
The beam sabers used an I-field to contain Minovsky particles within the shape of a blade. Minovsky particles broke down matter at a molecular level, allowing the beam saber to cut through almost any material.
The mobile suit was intended for guerrilla warfare which resulted in the adoption of various armaments, such as the beam sabers, for high versatility.
Long beam rifle
The Long Beam Rifle was the Messer Type-F02 Commander Type’s primary weapon. It featured a long barrel and was equipped with an optical sight on its right side that enabled long-range attacks such as sniping.
The rifle drew its rounds from energy packs (E-packs), clips of charged Minovsky particles. Its E-packs were the same type used by other modern mobile suits of the era.
Large shield
The mobile suit mounted a large shield on its left arm for defence. The shield was able to withstand high-powered beam attacks and also functioned as a weapon rack, allowing the pilot to store spare E-packs for the beam rifle and additional beam sabers.
Mines
The Type-F02 Commander Type could also be equipped with multiple mines that were stored on the rear skirt armor. These provided area denial capabilities and could be deployed to control battlefield access points.
Behind the scenes
Katoki Hajime and Nakatani Seiichi were the original mechanical designers for the base Messer Type-F series.
The name Messer comes from the German word meaning dagger.
Gunpla
Bandai released the P-Bandai exclusive 1/144 HGUC Me02R-F02c Messer Type-F02 (Commander Type) in 2021. The kit includes parts that can reproduce the “naked” body shape for the right shoulder, legs, and backpack, allowing builders to recreate the F-type naked variant operated by Emeralda in the series through part selection and painting.
