Libot Evacuation
Emergency evacuation of Side 6's Libot colony during the hunt for the Gundam Alex.
The Libot Evacuation (リボーコロニー避難, Ribō Koronī Hinan) was the emergency civilian withdrawal from Side 6’s Libot colony on 24 December UC 0079. The evacuation followed the discovery that Zeon’s Cyclops Team had infiltrated the neutral colony to destroy the Federation’s RX-78NT-1 Gundam “Alex”, as depicted in Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket.
Prelude
Libot’s government prided itself on neutrality, permitting both Federation and Zeon civilians to reside within the colony. However, when Zeon commandos disguised as refugees triggered security alerts near the industrial sector, the Side 6 administration concluded that open combat was imminent.
Evacuation order
Libot’s General Affairs Bureau issued a broadcast instructing residents to proceed to designated shelters. Schools, including the one attended by Alfred Izuruha, were emptied as families boarded evacuation trams bound for the colony’s agricultural block. The order emphasised that Libot’s neutrality remained intact, yet tensions between Zeon sympathisers and Federation expatriates flared as rumours of a Gundam prototype spread.
Clashes during withdrawal
While civilians moved to shelters, the Cyclops Team launched its assault on the Gundam Alex hangar. The resulting firefight between Zeon commandos and Federation defence teams caused explosions that vented sections of the industrial zone. Civilians including Alfred witnessed the destruction, underscoring the fragility of neutrality in the Universal Century.
Aftermath
The evacuation minimised casualties, but Libot’s reputation as a neutral haven suffered irreparable harm. The incident convinced Side 6’s leadership to tighten immigration controls and prompted the Federation to reconsider stationing advanced prototypes within neutral territory.
Significance
The Libot Evacuation encapsulates War in the Pocket’s focus on civilian perspectives. It highlights how children like Alfred experienced the One Year War not through grand battles, but through abrupt disruptions to daily life caused by covert military operations.
Appearances
The evacuation unfolds in Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket, framing the finale from Libot’s civilian perspective.
