Heaven's Fall

Heaven’s Fall (天の落とし子, Ten no Otoshi-go) was the catastrophe in 1999 that severed the Vers Empire from Mars and set the terms of its long ceasefire with Earth. A battle between the United Earth Federation and the Vers Empire on the Moon caused the Hypergate—ancient alien technology discovered during Apollo 17—to explode. The Moon was destroyed, and a debris belt formed around Earth. Cut off from Mars, the Vers Empire established orbital stations within the belt, leading to a tense 15-year ceasefire until conflict resumed in 2014.
