Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom (機動戦士ガンダムSEED FREEDOM, Kidō Senshi Gandamu Shīdo Furīdamu) is a 2024 Japanese anime science fiction film directed by Mitsuo Fukuda and produced by Sunrise. The film premiered in Japan on 26 January 2024 and serves as the sequel to both Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. Set in Cosmic Era 75, one year after the events of SEED Destiny, the film continues the story of the Cosmic Era timeline and its protagonists.

Synopsis

The film follows Lacus Clyne, who has become president of a peace monitoring organisation established in the aftermath of the Second Alliance-PLANT War. However, the organisation and the fragile peace it represents face new threats. The film reunites the main cast from the previous series, including Kira Yamato, Athrun Zala, and Cagalli Yula Athha, as they confront new challenges to peace in the Cosmic Era.

Production and release

The film was directed by Mitsuo Fukuda, who also directed Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny. The screenplay was completed by Liu Goto and Mitsuo Fukuda following the passing of original series writer Chiaki Morosawa. Music was composed by Toshihiko Sahashi, who also scored the previous Cosmic Era series. The film has a runtime of approximately 124 minutes.

Gundam SEED Freedom was released theatrically in Japan on 26 January 2024, with subsequent releases in other regions including Australia, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. The film is distributed by Bandai Namco Filmworks and Shochiku.
