Fafner (mecha)
Fafners are the humanoid mecha in Fafner in the Azure that defend Tatsumiyajima from the Festum. They fuse human technology with Festum biology; pilots undergo assimilation to operate them and gradually merge with the Festum collective. The Siegfried System allows operators to coordinate multiple Fafners and share pilots’ sensory experience. Designed by Naohiro Washio, the units have an organic-mechanical aesthetic.
