CB-002 Raphael Gundam

The CB-002 Raphael Gundam (ラファエルガンダム, Rafaeru Gandamu) was a heavy assault mobile suit developed by Celestial Being and piloted by Tieria Erde in the film Mobile Suit Gundam 00: Awakening of the Trailblazer. Deployed in AD 2314, it served as the successor to the GN-008 Seravee Gundam, combining Innovator-derived technology with Celestial Being’s mobile suit expertise. Unlike Tieria’s previous units (Virtue, Seravee), the Raphael did not conceal a second mobile suit; it was a single heavy assault unit capable of combining with support craft to form the CB-002/GD Raphael Gundam Dominions configuration.

History

Development

The Raphael was developed using technical data from the Seravee Gundam GNHW/B and elements of the Innovators’ GNZ-series (such as the Gadessa), creating a hybrid design suited to heavy firepower and space combat. It was powered by three GN Drive Tau units, providing ample output for its armament and thrust. Its aesthetic echoed the Seravee, including a green camera on the forehead and front-facing horns.

Awakening of the Trailblazer

Tieria piloted the Raphael during Celestial Being’s operations against the ELS (Extraterrestrial Living-metal Shapeshifters). The unit participated in the final battle to protect Earth and could combine with the Gundam Dominions support units for enhanced capability when required.

Design

The Raphael stood 25.9 metres tall and had a maximum weight of 102.3 metric tons, making it substantially larger and heavier than the Seravee. Its role as a heavy assault unit emphasised firepower and durability over the hidden transformation gimmick of Tieria’s earlier machines.
