AMX-101K Galluss-K
Artillery mobile suit developed by Neo Zeon.
The AMX-101K Galluss-K was an artillery mobile suit developed by Neo Zeon as a variation of the AMX-101 Galluss-J during the First Neo Zeon War.
The “AMX” designation indicated it was an Axis/Neo Zeon experimental mobile suit, the “101” denoted it was developed from the Galluss-J line, and the “K” suffix likely stood for “Kanone” (German for cannon), reflecting its artillery role.
History
The AMX-101K Galluss-K was developed for use during the Earth invasion during the First Neo Zeon War in UC 0088. The original shoulder missiles and finger missiles were omitted, and it was equipped instead with a beam cannon of the same type as the hand-held weapon used by the AMX-008 Ga-Zowmn.
Developed in UC 0088, this obscure machine finally appeared on history’s centre stage in UC 0096. Zeon remnants used the Galluss-K as part of a large scale attack on Australia’s Torrington Base during the Laplace Incident of UC 0096. The mobile suit’s artillery capabilities made it well-suited for providing fire support during the assault on the Federation stronghold.
Design
The AMX-101K Galluss-K was a variation of the AMX-101 Galluss-J that prioritised long-range firepower over the close-combat capabilities of its predecessor. The K model was developed for use during the Earth invasion and featured significant differences in armament compared to the base Galluss-J.
The mobile suit retained the same basic frame and dimensions as the Galluss-J, with a head height of 19.5 metres. However, its weight increased significantly due to the heavy artillery equipment, with an empty weight of 55.9 metric tons and a maximum gross weight of 82.8 metric tons. This made it considerably heavier than the original Galluss-J.
The Galluss-K was powered by a Minovsky type ultracompact fusion reactor rated at 2,840 kW output, the same as the base model. However, its propulsion was reduced to only 8,600 kg of total thrust, reflecting its role as a fire support unit rather than a fast-moving combat mobile suit. The mobile suit had a standard cockpit in its torso with a panoramic monitor and linear seat.
Armaments
The Galluss-K’s armament configuration was completely redesigned to fulfil its artillery role, removing the close-combat weapons of the original Galluss-J in favour of long-range firepower.
Beam cannon
Mounted on the backpack, the beam cannon was a modified version of the hyper knuckle buster used by the AMX-008 Ga-Zowmn. This powerful beam weapon provided the Galluss-K with its primary long-range attack capability. The shoulder and finger missiles of the original Galluss-J were removed to accommodate this weapon system.
The beam cannon’s positioning on the backpack allowed it to fire over the mobile suit’s shoulders, providing excellent firing arcs whilst maintaining the unit’s basic humanoid configuration. This mounting arrangement also helped distribute the weapon’s weight and recoil forces through the mobile suit’s frame.
3-tube missile pod
Mounted on the hardpoint on the Galluss-K’s left forearm, this missile system provided additional ranged firepower. The missile pod could engage multiple targets or deliver concentrated firepower against hardened positions, making it ideal for the unit’s artillery support role.
Big gun
Originally a weapon used by the MS-06K Zaku Cannon, it was mounted on the hardpoint on Galluss-K’s right forearm. This projectile weapon provided the mobile suit with alternative firepower options, particularly useful in environments where beam weapons might be less effective due to high Minovsky particle density.
The inclusion of both beam and projectile weapons gave the Galluss-K versatility in engaging different types of targets and operating in various battlefield conditions. The combination of these weapons systems made it an effective fire support platform for Neo Zeon forces.
Behind the scenes
Katoki Hajime was the original mechanical designer for the Galluss-K. The design was based on the AMX-101K Galluss-K from the Gundam Unicorn novels.
The “K” designation likely refers to “Kanone,” the German word for cannon, which is appropriate given the mobile suit’s artillery role and the German naming conventions often used for Zeon mobile suits.
