AMX-101E Schuzrum-Galluss
Custom close combat mobile suit developed by Neo Zeon.
The AMX-101E Schuzrum-Galluss was a custom close combat mobile suit developed by Neo Zeon as a variation of the AMX-101 Galluss-J used during the First Neo Zeon War.
The “AMX” designation indicated it was an Axis/Neo Zeon experimental mobile suit, the “101” denoted it was developed from the Galluss-J line, and the “E” suffix likely stood for “Experimental” or indicated the fifth variant in the series. “Schuzrum” probably stems from the German word “Sturm” being transcribed to Japanese as “シュツルム” (Shutsurumu) and then being phonetically transcribed to English.
History
A mobile suit developed by the Sleeves based on the Galluss-J, it was customised as an assault machine with a focus on breaking through enemy positions, such as bases and ships. To suit its specialisation, the weight of the Schuzrum-Galluss was reduced by more than 50% compared to its base machine. This was achieved through the removal of existing armour, such as those on the shoulders and legs, as well as the omission of cruising-use thrusters and associated propellant.
As a result, the Schuzrum-Galluss had extremely high manoeuvrability, and excelled in melee combat as there was now less armour that could get in its way during fighting. However, the lack of cruising-use thrusters caused it to rely on external propulsion units such as the AMX-102 Zssa’s booster unit for cruising purposes.
The Schuzrum-Galluss was deployed by the Sleeves together with their older mobile suits in order to halt the SCVA-76 Nahel Argama’s advance toward Industrial 7 for their purpose of retrieving Laplace’s Box. Upon boarding the Nahel Argama using a Zssa booster unit, the Schuzrum-Galluss used its magnetic anchors to latch itself onto the ship, where together with a shotgun-equipped Zssa mobile suit, would engage in combat against an AMS-129 Geara Zulu and an RGM-89D Jegan.
After incapacitating both mobile suits, the Schuzrum-Galluss used its chain mine to breach the hull of the Nahel Argama, but before it could proceed any further, Conroy Haagensen in his customised RGM-89De Jegan (ECOAS Type), took out the Zssa with its Fire Nut grenades and engaged the Schuzrum-Galluss with its handgun. The Schuzrum-Galluss approached Conroy’s Jegan, but was knocked off the Nahel Argama by one of the RX-0 Full Armor Unicorn Gundam’s propellant tanks detached by Banagher Links.
Design
The Schuzrum-Galluss featured a dramatically reduced weight compared to the base Galluss-J through the removal of armour plating and cruising equipment. This weight reduction improved its manoeuvrability significantly but at the cost of protection and independent operational range.
The mobile suit had a standard cockpit in its torso with a panoramic monitor and linear seat. It was powered by a Minovsky type ultracompact fusion reactor rated at 2,840 kW output. Its sensors had a detection range of 11,200 metres.
Like the older MS-18E Kämpfer, the Schuzrum-Galluss was equipped with chain mines to breach through an enemy’s defence line. The mobile suit’s design prioritised close combat effectiveness over defensive capability or long-range operations.
Armaments
The Schuzrum-Galluss’s armaments were specifically designed for assault and boarding operations, featuring close-combat weapons and breaching equipment.
Spike shields
The Schuzrum-Galluss could store two spike shields on its shoulders. Specially designed for the suit, they were a combination of a modified MS-06 Zaku II’s shield with a modified AMS-119 Geara Doga’s shield. When in use, the spike shields were mounted over the hands like a pair of boxer gloves, and they served as effective bashing weapons due to their spikes. These shields could also be used for defensive purposes and appeared to be anti-beam coated. They could be switched for other weapons to fit the mission’s needs.
The spike shields transformed the mobile suit’s hands into devastating close-combat weapons, allowing it to deliver crushing blows while providing protection against enemy beam weapons. The spikes could pierce through enemy armour and hull plating during boarding operations.
Magnet anchors
An electromagnetic wire anchor was built into the weapon bays of each shoulder, replacing the Galluss-J’s missile pods. By shooting out the magnet anchor and then reeling in its wire after the anchor had attached to a target, this equipment could be used in a variety of ways, such as restraining enemy units or helping in boarding an enemy ship.
The magnet anchors were essential for the Schuzrum-Galluss’s role as a boarding assault unit. They allowed the mobile suit to attach itself to enemy vessels and structures, enabling it to breach their defences and engage in close combat within confined spaces.
Chain mines
Stored on the suit’s back before use, the chain mine had a number of disc-shaped mines connected to each other by flexible cable. Each mine had magnetic claws on its underside, allowing it to be attached to objects. The chain mine could be thrown out like grenades one by one, laid on the ground or fixed to a building as a mine, or (most destructively) attached to a single enemy and detonated.
Like the older MS-18E Kämpfer, the Schuzrum-Galluss was equipped with chain mines to breach through an enemy’s defence line. The weapon could be switched for other weapons to fit the mission’s needs. The chain mines were particularly effective for breaching ship hulls and fortifications, making them ideal for the Schuzrum-Galluss’s assault role.

Behind the scenes
The original mechanical designer is unknown, though the base Galluss-J was designed by Yutaka Izubuchi. The name “Schuzrum” probably stems from the German word “Sturm” (storm/assault) being transcribed to Japanese as “シュツルム” (Shutsurumu) and then being phonetically transcribed to English.
The design concept drew inspiration from the MS-18E Kämpfer, another close-combat mobile suit known for its high mobility and assault capabilities. Like the Kämpfer, the Schuzrum-Galluss emphasised speed and close-range firepower over defensive capability.
