AMS-129 Geara Zulu (Angelo Sauper Use)

The AMS-129 Geara Zulu (Angelo Sauper Use) was a custom mobile suit developed by Anaheim Electronics for Angelo Sauper, chief of Full Frontal’s elite guards.

The “AMS” model code indicated it was an Anaheim mass production model, with “129” denoting the model number in the development sequence. The “(Angelo Sauper Use)” designation indicated it was a personal custom machine.

History

A customised Geara Zulu (Guards Type) used by Angelo Sauper, the chief of Full Frontal’s elite guards, it was painted in his violet personal colours and featured more elaborate patterns on its chest as well as a blade antenna on its head. Angelo’s machine was deployed during the Laplace Incident in UC 0096, serving as one of the most distinctive and powerful mobile suits in Full Frontal’s personal forces.

The mobile suit saw action throughout the conflict, demonstrating the enhanced capabilities that came with Angelo’s customisations and his piloting skills. Angelo used his Geara Zulu to great effect in various engagements, taking advantage of its heavy armament backpack and specialised weaponry.

Design

Angelo Sauper’s Geara Zulu was based on the Guards Type variant but featured extensive customisation to suit his personal preferences and combat style. The most notable visual change was the violet personal colour scheme that replaced the standard Guards Type colours, along with more elaborate patterns on the chest and the addition of a blade antenna on the head.

The mobile suit carried a heavy armament backpack that not only improved the suit’s thrust, but also had an additional generator to ensure stable power supply to the suit’s weapons, a stabiliser, and two large propellant tanks for increased operational time. The stabiliser and propellant tanks could be removed when not required. This backpack was designed as an optional equipment for the Geara Zulu, and was produced in limited number, but the Geara Zulu (Guards Type), such as Angelo’s, received priority in equipping it.

Angelo’s Geara Zulu had significantly enhanced performance specifications compared to the standard Guards Type. The power output was increased to 2,870 kW, whilst the total thruster output reached 77,625 kg. The enhanced sensor range extended to 19,200 metres, providing superior battlefield awareness.

The mobile suit had a standard cockpit in its torso with a panoramic monitor and linear seat. The additional generator in the backpack ensured stable power supply to all systems, including the mobile suit’s formidable array of weaponry.

Armaments

Angelo’s Geara Zulu’s standard weapons were specialised for both long-range engagement and close combat, reflecting his role as an elite guard and his personal combat preferences.

Beam tomahawk

The only close combat weapon of the Geara Zulu (Angelo Sauper Use) was a beam tomahawk, which was stored on the rear skirt of the suit. The head of the beam tomahawk had two beam emitters, one on the side that emitted the axe-blade, and the second on top that emitted a beam spike that could be used for stabbing attacks.

Lange Bruno gun plus

One of the weaponry designed for use with the heavy armament backpack, it was a modified version of the Lange Bruno Gun, a long-range support weaponry found on AMS-119 Geara Doga Heavy Weapons Type that fired solid rounds. The Lange Bruno Gun Plus was specialised for space-use, and functioned as a long-range beam launcher. It had an extremely high focusing rate, and fired a highly penetrative beam at a very fast speed.

Beam shot rifle

A modified version of the MSN-04 Sazabi’s weapon of the same name for use by a Geara Zulu, it was another weapon designed for use with the heavy armament backpack. This weapon provided Angelo’s mobile suit with additional ranged combat capabilities.

Beam machine gun

The standard firearm of the Geara Zulu, it rapid fired pellet-shaped beams and its firing and focusing rates were consistent with the standards at the time. By adjusting the irradiation time, the weapon could also function as a beam rifle. The magazine (E-pac) doubled as a foregrip, and had a banana shape, increasing the number of ammunition. Three sets of spare magazines could be mounted on the left and right sides of the front skirt armour.

It had excellent basic design and high expandability. Options for the weapon included a large sensor that directly linked to the mobile suit’s sensor, and a single round grenade launcher unit that was attached to the bottom of the barrel.

Shield

The Geara Zulu (Angelo Sauper Use) could use the same forearm mounted shield as the AMS-119 Geara Doga for defence. This shield provided additional protection whilst maintaining the mobile suit’s offensive capabilities.

Submachine gun

Angelo’s Geara Zulu could be equipped with a submachine gun that heavily resembled the H&K MP5K and its variants. This weapon provided close-range firepower for urban combat or confined spaces.

Behind the scenes

Katoki Hajime was the original mechanical designer. The design was based on the AMS-129 Geara Zulu (Angelo Sauper Use) from the Gundam Unicorn novels, though the anime version featured some visual differences, including a more pinkish hue compared to the novel version.

The submachine gun heavily resembled the H&K MP5K and its variants, reflecting the Geara Zulu line’s inspiration from WWII German military equipment.

Angelo’s Geara Zulu appeared as a playable unit in Dynasty Warriors Gundam Reborn. However, its appearance was based off its novel version due to its more pinkish hues and the presence of its shield.
