Vulcan Armored Car
Anti-mobile suit ground combat vehicle mass produced by the Earth Federation.
The Vulcan Armored Car was an anti-mobile suit ground combat vehicle mass produced by the Earth Federation Forces during the One Year War. It was a half-track armored car fitted with a large calibre vulcan gun.
History
The Earth Federation Forces developed the Vulcan Armored Car as a ground-based anti-mobile suit weapon. The vehicle’s high-calibre vulcan gun proved effective against the armor of early Principality of Zeon mobile suits like the MS-06F Zaku II.
The Federation deployed Vulcan Armored Cars at major bases including Belfast and Jaburo. However, they proved ineffective against more heavily armored mobile suits like the MSM-03 Gogg. The development of mobile suits with built-in vulcan guns eventually made these vehicles obsolete.
Design
The Vulcan Armored Car used a hybrid propulsion system combining regular wheels at the front with caterpillar tracks at the rear for improved all-terrain mobility. This half-track configuration provided good maneuverability while maintaining stability when firing the main weapon.
The vehicle required a crew of two: a driver in the main compartment and a gunner who operated the vulcan gun from a side-mounted cockpit. The gunner’s position allowed for a wide firing arc and good visibility.
Armaments
60 mm vulcan gun
A nine-barrel 60 mm vulcan gun mounted on a rotating turret served as the vehicle’s primary and only armament. The high rate of fire and armor-piercing ammunition allowed it to penetrate the armor of early Zeon mobile suits. However, the weapon proved ineffective against more heavily armored units.
Behind the scenes
Okawara Kunio was the original mechanical designer.
