Victoria Base
Earth Alliance military base in Africa during the First Alliance-PLANT War.
Victoria Base (ヴィクトリア基地, Vikutoria Kichi) was an Earth Alliance military installation located in Africa during the First Alliance-PLANT War. The base served as an important supply depot and operational facility for Alliance forces operating on Earth, and it was a potential landing site for the Archangel during its journey across Earth.
History
Victoria Base was established as one of the Earth Alliance’s primary military facilities on the African continent. The base’s strategic location made it an important logistical hub for Alliance operations, providing supplies, maintenance facilities, and command capabilities for forces deployed across Africa and the surrounding regions.
Archangel’s attempted landing
During CE 71, the Archangel attempted to reach Victoria Base as part of its journey to rejoin Alliance forces. The ship had been operating independently following its escape from Heliopolis and subsequent battles, and reaching Victoria Base would have provided it with much-needed supplies, repairs, and reinforcements.
However, ZAFT forces were aware of the Archangel’s intended destination and launched operations to prevent the ship from reaching the base. The threat of ZAFT interception forced the Archangel to alter its plans and continue its journey without landing at Victoria Base, demonstrating the base’s strategic importance and the intense competition for control of key Earth facilities during the war.
Facilities
Victoria Base contained extensive military infrastructure necessary for supporting Alliance operations:
Supply depot
The base housed significant stores of weapons, ammunition, mobile suit parts, and other essential supplies needed for sustained military operations. This logistical capability made Victoria Base crucial for maintaining Alliance forces in the African theatre.
Maintenance facilities
Victoria Base featured maintenance bays and workshops capable of servicing mobile suits, vehicles, and naval vessels. These facilities were essential for keeping Alliance equipment operational during the extended conflict.
Command centre
The base served as a regional command centre, coordinating Alliance operations across Africa and facilitating communication with other Alliance facilities and headquarters. This command capability made Victoria Base a target for ZAFT forces seeking to disrupt Alliance command and control.
Strategic importance
Victoria Base’s location in Africa made it strategically significant for several reasons:
Regional operations
The base provided a staging point for Alliance operations across Africa and surrounding regions, enabling the Alliance to project power and maintain military presence in areas of strategic importance.
Supply chain
Victoria Base formed part of the Alliance’s supply chain, connecting Earth-based facilities and ensuring that forces received the materials and support needed to continue operations. The loss or neutralisation of the base would have disrupted Alliance logistics significantly.
Air and space access
The base’s facilities supported both air and potential space operations, making it a versatile facility that could support various types of military activities. This versatility increased the base’s value to the Alliance war effort.
