RZ-002 Re-GZ (Argent Keil Type)

The RZ-002 Re-GZ (Argent Keil Type) was one of multiple Re-GZ units produced for technical trial purposes after the Second Neo Zeon War, which was acquired by Argent Keil and modified independently. It has been tuned for use only in MS mode and does not equip the optional BWS (Back Weapon System) armaments, so the backpack has been strengthened.

The “RZ” designation maintained the standard Federation nomenclature for Re-GZ type units, whilst “002” indicated it was the second Re-GZ type unit in Argent Keil’s fleet, following their custom numbering system rather than the standard Federation model designation format.

History

Development

After the Second Neo Zeon War, multiple Re-GZ units were produced for technical trial purposes by Anaheim Electronics. One of these experimental units was acquired by the mercenary organisation Argent Keil, who modified the unit independently to suit their operational requirements.

The original RGZ-91 Re-GZ was developed as a simplified variant of the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam, with consideration for mass production taken into account. The Argent Keil variant took this concept further by eliminating the transformation capability entirely.

Operational history

The RZ-002 Re-GZ (Argent Keil Type) was piloted by Mabel Lena, a veteran pilot and leader within the Argent Keil organisation. Mabel was a reliable and caring person who also worked in strategy operations, and treasured her adoptive daughter Babia above all else.

The RZ-002 saw action during UC 0096 as part of Argent Keil’s mercenary operations. The suit participated in the organisation’s contract to assassinate the high-ranking Federation official Azami Meggineh, working alongside other Argent Keil units including the JW-001 Jagd Weiss and the DZ-001 Delta Zayin.

During combat operations, Mabel utilised the RZ-002’s enhanced mobile suit mode performance to provide tactical support and leadership to the Argent Keil forces, demonstrating the effectiveness of the unit’s modifications.

Design features

The most significant modification made to the RZ-002 was the complete removal of its transformation capability. The suit has been tuned for use only in mobile suit mode and does not equip the optional BWS (Back Weapon System) armaments that were characteristic of the standard Re-GZ.

To compensate for the removal of the BWS, the backpack has been strengthened to provide better structural support and improved performance in mobile suit mode. This modification also reduced the suit’s overall complexity and maintenance requirements, making it more suitable for a mercenary organisation’s operational needs.

Like all Argent Keil mobile suits, the RZ-002 featured the organisation’s distinctive silver colour scheme, completely replacing the original Federation livery.

Armament

The RZ-002 retained a reliable armament configuration that provided both defensive and offensive capabilities for various combat scenarios.

60 mm vulcan gun

The RZ-002 retained the standard Re-GZ armament configuration, including dual 60 mm vulcan guns mounted in the head for anti-personnel and light anti-armour duties.

Beam saber

For close combat, the suit was equipped with two beam sabers stored in the backpack when not in use.

Beam rifle

The RZ-002 could be equipped with a beam rifle as its primary ranged weapon, providing effective firepower against enemy mobile suits.

Shield

The suit also carried a shield for defensive purposes, mounted on the forearm in the traditional Federation configuration.

Variants

No known variants of the RZ-002 Re-GZ (Argent Keil Type) have been recorded.

Behind the scenes

The RZ-002 Re-GZ (Argent Keil Type) was designed by Akitaka Mika for Mobile Suit Gundam: Silver Phantom. Akitaka Mika is a Japanese mechanical designer and video game creator. He is mainly known for his work in the Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ and Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory animated series.

The removal of the transformation capability from the RZ-002 represents a practical approach by Argent Keil, focusing on reliability and maintenance efficiency over versatility. This modification philosophy aligned with the organisation’s mercenary nature, where operational readiness and cost-effectiveness were paramount concerns.
