RGZ-95C ReZEL Type C (Defenser a-Unit)
Commander type assault mobile suit equipped with Defenser a-Unit.
The RGZ-95C ReZEL Type C (Defenser a-Unit) was a commander type assault mobile suit equipped with the Defenser a-Unit backpack system. It was an equipment configuration of the standard RGZ-95C ReZEL Type C.
The “R” in the model code meant it was a Federation model and the “X” indicated that it was an experimental mobile suit. The “95” in the model code denoted that it was developed in UC 0095, while the “C” suffix indicated that it was a commander type variant. The “Defenser a-Unit” designation referred to the missile-equipped assault backpack.
History
The RGZ-95C ReZEL Type C (Defenser a-Unit) was an equipment configuration of the standard RGZ-95C. The a-Unit provided extra thrust to the ReZEL to compensate for the added weight. Developed specifically for the ReZEL, the Defenser backpack is a space-use assault backpack for conducting rapid, first strike attack on the frontline or enemy’s stronghold, and there are two versions of the Defenser backpack: the a-Unit focusing on missile armaments and the b-Unit focusing on beam weaponry.
A Defenser a-Unit was used by Londo Bell pilot Norm Basilicock in April UC 0096 when the Nahel Argama engaged Neo Zeon forces. The unit proved effective in close-range assault operations, where its missile armament could overwhelm enemy defences.
Design
The Defenser a-Unit was designed as an assault-oriented equipment package that transformed the ReZEL Type C into a heavily armed close-combat specialist. The a-Unit provided extra thrust to the ReZEL to compensate for the added weight, increasing the mobile suit’s total thrust output to 91,600 kg from the standard 85,400 kg.
The most distinctive feature of the a-Unit was its missile armament. The a-Unit mounted six missile pods that could store a total of 96 micro missiles, providing devastating firepower for saturation attacks. The system was designed for rapid deployment and quick strikes against enemy formations or fortified positions.
The mobile suit’s power output was also increased to 2,320 kW to support the additional equipment and weapons systems. This represented a significant boost over the standard ReZEL Type C’s 2,220 kW output.
Armaments
The Defenser a-Unit configuration significantly enhanced the ReZEL Type C’s offensive capabilities, particularly in close-range combat scenarios.
60 mm vulcan guns
2 x 60mm vulcan gun, mounted in head. The standard head-mounted vulcan guns were retained for point defence and anti-missile duties.
Missile pods
6 x missile pod, stores total of 96 x micro missile, mounted on Defenser a-Unit. The six missile pods mounted on the Defenser a-Unit were the configuration’s primary offensive weapon. Each pod contained 16 micro missiles, for a total payload of 96 missiles. These missiles were designed for saturation attacks against multiple targets or for overwhelming enemy defensive systems.
Hyper beam sabers
2 x hyper beam saber, stored in recharge racks on Defenser a-Unit, hand-carried in use. The a-Unit carried two hyper beam sabers similar to those used by the MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam; however, the beam cannon function was omitted to stabilise energy supply. These weapons provided enhanced melee combat capability with greater power output than standard beam sabers.
Standard beam sabers
2 x beam saber, stored in recharge racks in left forearm, hand-carried in use. In addition to the hyper beam sabers, the mobile suit retained its standard complement of two beam sabers stored in the left forearm recharge racks.
Grenade launcher
2-tube grenade launcher, mounted on right forearm. The grenade launcher provided additional explosive firepower for close-range combat situations.
Shield
shield, features beam cannon, mounted on left arm. The standard ReZEL shield was retained, providing defensive capability and additional beam weaponry.
Beam rifle
beam rifle, can emit long beam saber, mounts underneath main body in waverider mode. The standard beam rifle was available as optional equipment, though the missile-heavy loadout meant it was less frequently carried.
