RGZ-95 ReZEL (Defenser b-Unit)

The RGZ-95 ReZEL (Defenser b-Unit) was a transformable assault mobile suit equipped with the Defenser b-Unit backpack system. It was an equipment configuration of the standard RGZ-95 ReZEL.

The “R” in the model code meant it was a Federation model and the “X” indicated that it was an experimental mobile suit. The “95” in the model code denoted that it was developed in UC 0095. The “Defenser b-Unit” designation referred to the beam weapon-equipped assault backpack.

History

The RGZ-95 ReZEL (Defenser b-Unit) was an equipment configuration of the standard RGZ-95. The b-Unit provided extra thrust to the ReZEL to compensate for the added weight. The b-Unit was equipped with two mega particle cannons and two mega beam launchers that could coordinate with the ReZEL’s sensors for precision firing and sniping.

Instead of the standard RGZ-95 beam rifle, it carried two of the mega beam launchers used by the RGZ-95C ReZEL Type C. A Defenser b-Unit was used by Londo Bell pilot Riddhe Marcenas in April UC 0096 when the Nahel Argama engaged Neo Zeon forces.

The configuration proved particularly effective in providing long-range fire support during the intense battles of the Laplace Incident, where its enhanced beam weaponry could engage enemy mobile suits at extended ranges.

Design

The Defenser b-Unit was designed to transform the standard ReZEL into a long-range fire support specialist. The b-Unit provided extra thrust to the ReZEL to compensate for the added weight, increasing the total thrust output to 91,600 kg from the standard 81,500 kg.

The most distinctive feature of the b-Unit was its focus on beam weaponry. The unit mounted two mega particle cannons in wing binders and two mega beam launchers on the backpack, providing exceptional long-range firepower. This configuration made the ReZEL particularly effective in precision firing and sniping roles.

The mobile suit’s power output was increased to 2,320 kW to support the additional beam weaponry and equipment systems. This represented a significant boost over the standard ReZEL’s 2,220 kW output.

Armaments

The Defenser b-Unit configuration significantly enhanced the ReZEL’s long-range combat capabilities through its advanced beam weapon systems.

60 mm vulcan guns

2 x 60mm vulcan gun, mounted in head. The standard head-mounted vulcan guns were retained for point defence and anti-missile duties.

Mega particle cannons

2 x mega particle cannon, mounted in wing binders. The mega particle cannons were mounted in the wing binders of the Defenser b-Unit, providing powerful long-range beam weaponry. These weapons served as the main armament in waverider mode and could coordinate with the ReZEL’s sensors for precision targeting.

Mega beam launchers

2 x mega beam launcher, mounted on backpack, mount on top of main body in waverider mode. The twin mega beam launchers were the primary offensive weapons of the Defenser b-Unit configuration. These high-output beam weapons were identical to those used by the ReZEL Type C and provided devastating firepower for long-range engagements. The launchers could be repositioned depending on the mobile suit’s current mode.

Beam sabers

2 x beam saber, stored in recharge racks in left forearm, hand-carried in use. The mobile suit retained its standard complement of two beam sabers for close combat situations, stored in the left forearm recharge racks when not in use.

Grenade launcher

2-tube grenade launcher, mounted on right forearm. The standard grenade launcher was retained to provide explosive firepower for close-range combat situations.

Shield

shield, features beam cannon, mounted on left arm. The standard ReZEL shield was retained, providing defensive capability and additional beam weaponry through its integrated beam cannon.
