Plenitude
Civilian transport ship used for cargo operations and later military testing.
The Plenitude was a civilian transport ship that operated during the late Universal Century era. The vessel was notable for its versatile cargo-carrying capabilities and later military applications.
History
The Plenitude was initially operated as a civilian transport vessel in UC 0093, during the period of the Second Neo Zeon War. The ship was designed for long-distance cargo operations, featuring residential areas that allowed crews to undertake extended journeys in relative comfort.
By UC 0112, the Plenitude had been acquired by the Earth Federation Forces and repurposed as a mothership for experimental mobile suit testing operations. During this period, the vessel served as the base of operations for teams testing the experimental F90 Gundam F90, demonstrating the adaptability of civilian transport designs for military applications.
Design
The Plenitude featured a practical design optimised for cargo transport operations. The ship was equipped with both conventional rocket propulsion engines and a Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) system mounted in the front and rear sections, providing exceptional operational flexibility for planetary and space operations.
A prominent feature of the vessel was a large crane mounted in the central area, which could be used for loading and unloading cargo containers. The ship was capable of carrying six cubic containers, each approximately 20 metres in size, providing substantial cargo capacity for its operations.
The vessel included residential quarters located beneath the bridge, allowing the crew to undertake long-distance journeys with adequate living accommodations. This feature made the Plenitude particularly suitable for extended missions away from port facilities.
Armaments
The Plenitude carried no fixed armaments, reflecting its civilian transport origins and non-combat role. The vessel relied on escort ships or friendly forces for protection during operations in contested areas.
Behind the scenes
The Plenitude was designed by Izubuchi Yutaka, Yoshinori Sayama, Anno Hideaki, and Koichi Ohata for Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack. The vessel represented the continued use of civilian ships for military support roles throughout the Universal Century.
