Nagate Tanikaze

Nagate Tanikaze (谷風 長道) is the main protagonist of Knights of Sidonia. Raised in secret beneath the starship Sidonia by his “grandfather” Hiroki Saitō, he spent his childhood training on an old Garde simulator before being thrust into the open when supplies ran out.

After surfacing, Nagate is drafted into Sidonia’s Defence Force and quickly proves to be a natural Garde pilot, taking the controls of the legendary Tsugumori and later its custom successors. As the series progresses he becomes Sidonia’s top ace, repeatedly facing the Gauna in defence of the ship whilst coming to terms with his engineered origins and the expectations placed upon him.
