MS-14JG Gelgoog Jäger
Mass production general purpose mobile suit developed by Zeonic.
The MS-14JG Gelgoog Jäger was a mass production general purpose mobile suit developed by Zeonic for the Principality of Zeon under the United Maintenance Plan during the final weeks of the One Year War.
The “MS” in the model code meant it was a mobile suit, the “14” indicated it was from the Gelgoog series, the “J” stood for “Jäger” (German for “hunter”), and the “G” indicated it was a general purpose variant.
History
Late during the One Year War, the Principality of Zeon military launched its United Maintenance Plan to upgrade and improve existing mobile suit designs and to make its own manufacturing capabilities more streamlined by incorporating similar parts and systems in several different mobile suit lines. This plan also served to help mobile suit pilots easily make the transition from one type of mobile suit to another, as all of the suits produced under the United Maintenance Plan were similar to each other in terms of operation.
One of the mobile suit types to be redesigned under this plan was the MS-14A Gelgoog, which only recently began production at Zeon’s A Baoa Qu asteroid base in December UC 0079. The new MS-14JG Gelgoog Jäger was a serious step above anything else produced by Zeon at the time, incorporating more powerful rocket thrusters and additional verniers for added maneuverability.
The Gelgoog Jäger was also known as the “Gelgoog Sniper Type” due to its specialisation for precision firing missions. Notable pilots included ace Shin Matsunaga, who received a unit during operations between the battles of Solomon and A Baoa Qu.
Design
A variation of the MS-14 Gelgoog, the MS-14JG was specialised for precision firing mission, and was also known as “Gelgoog Sniper Type”. It was designed with the United Maintenance Plan in mind, greatly increasing its specifications and ease of piloting, as well as simplifying its manufacturing process and improving the interchangeability of its parts with other models.
The mobile suit measured 19.2 meters in head height and weighed 40.5 metric tons empty, with a maximum gross weight of 80.3 metric tons. It was constructed from titanium ceramic composite armor and powered by a Minovsky type ultracompact fusion reactor with an output of 1,490 kW.
The Gelgoog Jäger was equipped with a total of 24 posture control sub-thrusters in addition to the main thrusters, significantly improving its mobility in space. Its propulsion system consisted of rocket thrusters with a total output of 178,500 kg (3 x 24,500 kg, 5 x 21,000 kg) and 24 vernier thrusters/apogee motors, giving it an impressive 180-degree turn time of 1.4 seconds and maximum ground running speed of 192 km/h.
Due to its nature as a sniper unit, its monoeye has a larger field of vision than standard units. In addition, since it was designed as a commander unit, it was equipped with a head-mounted blade antenna by default for enhanced communications.
Armaments
The Gelgoog Jäger’s armament was optimised for precision shooting and versatility under the United Maintenance Plan.
Vulcan guns
2 x vulcan gun, mounted in head. These rapid-fire weapons provided close-range defensive capability and anti-aircraft fire.
Beam spot guns
The Gelgoog Jäger was equipped with two beam spot guns, one mounted on each forearm. A close-range weapon still in development, its power was only enough to intimidate or hamper enemies, though it could potentially deal lethal damage at point-blank range. These weapons could also project beam blades for emergency melee combat.
Beam machine gun
The Gelgoog Jäger’s primary weapon, which prioritised destructive power over penetration. Its power was greater than the beam rifle used by the MS-14A Gelgoog. It could fire either pulsed beam pellets or a single-shot long-range beam. Its beam deterioration rate was low in long-range mode, allowing it to shatter enemies with high precision. The weapon was powered by rechargeable energy cap.
Beam saber
A single beam saber stored at an unknown location. It appears to be the same as the single-emitter model used by the MS-14F Gelgoog Marine.
Optional armaments
The Gelgoog Jäger could optionally equip two back-mounted propellant tanks, which extend its operational time in space by 200%. It could also use the same giant bazooka as the MS-09R-2 Rick Dom II, favoured by Gelgoog pilots due to its reliability and destructive power.

Behind the scenes
The MS-14JG Gelgoog Jäger was designed by Yutaka Izubuchi for Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket. The name “Jäger” means “hunter” in German, reflecting its role as a precision sniper unit.
