Jicco-class

The Jicco-class was an assault boat mass produced by the Principality of Zeon before and during the One Year War. It was designed for hit-and-run attacks against enemy vessels.

History

The Principality of Zeon developed the Jicco-class assault boat in the late UC 0070s as part of its space fleet before the widespread adoption of mobile suits. The vessel was deployed from UC 0078 onwards.

Several Jicco-class vessels served in fleet escort and support roles throughout the One Year War. In October UC 0079, multiple units launched from Granada as part of the Solomon relief fleet commanded by M’Quve.

Design

The Jicco-class assault boat featured a distinctive tri-block design. Two engine blocks were mounted on the left and right sides, with a spindle-shaped armament block containing missile launchers at the bow. A raised cockpit block on the upper hull was connected to the other sections by three support legs.

Three spherical propellant tanks were mounted between the engine blocks to extend its operational range. The vessel’s high-powered engines and agile frame made it well-suited for hit-and-run attacks against larger ships.

Armaments

The Jicco-class assault boat’s standard weapons were a missile launcher for long-range attacks and machine guns for close-range defence.

7-tube missile launcher

A seven-tube missile launcher was built into the bow section below the bridge. This was the vessel’s primary armament, capable of launching powerful warheads for long-range bombardment or quick salvos against enemy ships.

Machine guns

Four fixed forward-facing machine guns were mounted in the “neck” section between the bridge and missile launchers, with two guns on each side. While these guns had limited traverse, they provided additional firepower for the vessel’s assault role. Their effectiveness against mobile suits was unknown.
