Iso Mitsuo

Iso Mitsuo (磯 光雄, Iso Mitsuo, born 14 November 1960) is a Japanese animator, director, and screenwriter. He worked as a key animator on Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack (1988) and has contributed to numerous Gundam and anime productions. He is also known as the creator and director of Den-noh Coil (2007).

Gundam work

Iso contributed to Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack as a key animator. He has also worked on other Gundam titles over his career, including mechanical and effects animation. His work on Char’s Counterattack helped establish the film’s high standard of animation alongside other key animators such as Anno Hideaki and Kitazume Hiroyuki.

Career beyond Gundam

Iso has directed and written for several anime series and films. He is best known for Den-noh Coil, an original television series about augmented reality and childhood. His mechanical and effects animation has been influential in the industry.

Behind the scenes

Iso’s key animation on Char’s Counterattack is credited in the film and in Gundam production histories. He is often grouped with the wave of animators who worked under Yasuhiko Yoshikazu and Tomino Yoshiyuki on the film.
