Party Night is the 6th episode of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. It premiered in Japan on 12 May 1995 and later aired in North America on 13 March 2000. The episode was written by Akemi Omode and directed by Nana Harada. Relena arrives back at her mansion as reporters mob her limo.

Synopsis

Relena arrives back at her mansion as reporters mob her limo. She reunites with her mother in her room. Relena flashes back to Mr. Darlian’s death and what he told her. When her mother asks her if Darlian said anything before he died, Relena denies it.

Meanwhile, Lady Une reports to Treize that she is going to exterminate Darlian’s daughter, who witnessed his death. Treize warns Une to prepare for a potential Gundam encounter, then he releases two small birds in a cage at his office. At the St. Gabriel Academy, there is a party the night Relena returns. Heero deletes all records of him at the school, planning to depart for good. Relena’s friends welcome her back, but when she hears Heero is transferring she confronts him in his room as he finishes packing. She reveals to Heero that she met Dr. J, and says he can’t kill her due to the many people there at the moment.

Elsewhere, Wufei attacks another OZ facility with Shenlong. Trowa arrives slightly late to the circus at the manager’s dismay. He and Catherine go on in front of the audience. She is the star knife thrower of the circus and he acts as the target. She does fine until after watching Trowa for a while realizes that he is afraid of nothing, and wants to die. The knife accidently flies out of her hand and knicks his face. Afterwards she apologizes, but Trowa doesn’t want to talk to her.

Back at the party, Heero and Relena dance while her friends watch. Relena assures Heero that she is his ally, which seems to affect him. However, the moment is interrupted when he spots an OZ air carrier approaching the school. Heero runs off to get his Gundam, thinking that OZ has managed to track him down. Leo and Aries mobile suits head out to attack, but one of them is shot down by Wing Gundam’s buster rifle. The Gundam then emerges from its hiding place, ready to defend the school.

Heero fires Wing’s Vulcan guns at the other mobile suits, while people evacuate the party. As the enemy suits land, Heero charges at one of them and knocks it down with Wing’s shield. He then discards Wing’s buster rifle and draws its beam saber. Lady Une sends the remaining suits on the carrier after the Gundam. At Quatre’s home, he looks at a computer monitor while enjoying tea. He realizes there are other Gundam pilots out there attacking OZ facilities besides himself and Trowa. He wants to meet them all. Duo relaxes on his ship and looks at the moon, while conversing with Howard.

Wing Gundam continues to fight the Leos and Arieses, surprising them with its superior speed. Heero takes out all but one of them with Wing’s beam saber, but is distracted when he spots Relena on the ground below. The remaining Aries blasts him from behind and then blasts the school, sending a chunk of it hurling straight towards Relena. To everyone’s surprise, including his own, Heero saves her by using Wing’s shield to block it. The remaining OZ pilot thinks that the Gundam is protecting Relena and continues attacking. Barely paying attention to this, Heero finishes the last Aries off by stabbing it with the pointed edge of Wing’s shield.

Lady Une is about to head out after him herself, but Treize contacts her and tells her to stop. Une obeys and leaves. Treize meanwhile is thanked by Noin for doing Zechs this favor. Treize comments to himself after that the rumors of Zechs still having a living blood relative (Relena) were true. The two birds released earlier return to Treize. As Wing Gundam picks up its buster rifle, Relena realizes Heero is the Gundam’s pilot and asks him why he saved her; he is puzzled as well. He tries attacking her with Wing’s shield, but narrowly dodges hitting her and realizes that he can’t bring himself to kill her. Heero then converts his Gundam into its Bird Mode and takes off, much to Relena’s disappointment.
