Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance

Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance (機動戦士ガンダム 復讐のレクイエム, Kidō Senshi Gandamu Fukushū no Rekuiemu) is an upcoming original net animation series in the Gundam franchise. Set during the Universal Century’s One Year War, it focuses on the European front of the conflict between the Earth Federation and the Principality of Zeon.

The six-episode series directed by Erasmus Brosdau and written by Gavin Hignight[1] is scheduled to premiere worldwide on Netflix on 17 October 2024.

Synopsis

The series takes place in UC 0079, eleven months after the outbreak of the One Year War. As the Earth Federation Forces recapture a base in Zeon-occupied Eastern Europe, a Zeon composite battalion is dispatched to retake it. Among the Zeon forces is Iria Solari and her Red Wolf Squadron, a mobile suit team newly arrived from space. The story follows their efforts to defend the European front against the advancing Federation forces.

Development

Conception

Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance was conceived as a series targeting a global audience, with a focus on the European theatre of the One Year War. Writer and executive producer Gavin Hignight cited Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt and Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team as influences on the project.

Production

The series’ production was first announced at Anime Expo 2023, held on 3 July 2023 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California, USA.[2]

The series is co-produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks (credited under its former studio name Sunrise) and SAFEHOUSE Inc. It is the second Gundam production to be done entirely in computer animation since Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO, and the first to utilise Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5 for its animation.

Wilbert Roget II, known for his work on video games such as Call of Duty: WWII and Destiny 2: Forsaken, is composing the series’ music. Hiroaki Yura serves as both animation producer and sound director for the series.  Kimitoshi Yamane, who has worked on many Gundam series, is designing the mecha in the series.

Celia Massingham is casted as the motion capture model and voice actress for Iria Solari.

Release

Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance is being produced specifically for global release. Netflix announced in early December 2023 that it would distribute the series worldwide as a web anime.

Reception

As the series has not yet been released, there is no information available on its reception.
