FLCL: Grunge (2023) is the prequel to FLCL, exploring the origins of the conflict and early encounters with Medical Mechanica. Commissioned for Toonami’s 25th anniversary alongside FLCL: Shoegaze. Production I.G produced the sequels without Gainax involvement; Tsurumaki served as supervisor on the new seasons.
