Anti-Zaku Tank

The Anti-Zaku Tank was a light tank developed by the Earth Federation Forces as a stopgap measure to counter Zeon mobile suits during the early stages of the One Year War.

History

When the Principality of Zeon introduced mobile suits into warfare at the start of the One Year War, the Earth Federation struggled to respond to this new threat. While developing its own mobile suits through Project V, the Federation produced Anti-Zaku Tanks as an interim countermeasure.

The tanks were deployed to guard various space colonies, including Side 7. In September UC 0079, several units engaged Zaku IIs piloted by Denim and Gene during their infiltration of Side 7. However, the tanks proved ineffective and were easily destroyed.

The Anti-Zaku Tank was eventually phased out when the Federation began deploying its own mass-produced mobile suits.

Design

The Anti-Zaku Tank was designed specifically to combat Zeon mobile suits, particularly the MS-06F Zaku II. It was built as a simple, cost-effective platform that attempted to overcome mobile suits’ superior agility through rapid-fire weaponry.

The tank required a crew of three to operate effectively: a driver, a navigator, and a gunner. Its open-topped design allowed for better visibility but left the crew vulnerable to enemy fire.

Armaments

The Anti-Zaku Tank’s primary armament consisted of two machine guns mounted behind a gun shield in the forward section. While these weapons could penetrate standard Zaku armor at close range, they proved less effective against more heavily armored variants.
