AMX-014 Doven Wolf
Mass production general purpose heavy mobile suit developed by Neo Zeon.
The AMX-014 Doven Wolf was a mass production general purpose heavy mobile suit developed by Neo Zeon that incorporated quasi-psycommu technology to allow non-Newtype pilots to conduct all-range attacks.
The “AMX” in the model code indicated it was an Axis mobile experimental design, with “014” denoting it was the fourteenth design in the series. The “Doven Wolf” codename references the German words for “double” and “wolf”.
History
A new mass production design which beat out the competing AMX-011 Zaku III during the First Neo Zeon War, the AMX-014 Doven Wolf was found to be much more powerful and contemporary than its competition by the Neo Zeon military.
The Doven Wolf’s design was completed by Loren Nakamoto, a researcher from the Augusta Labs who defected to Neo Zeon after the Gryps War. Using design concepts taken from the salvaged Titans’ mobile suit MRX-010 Psycho Gundam Mk-II, the Doven Wolf incorporated a wide variety of beam weapons all over its body.
The majority of the technology employed in the suit originated from Earth Federation produced prototype machines that ended up in the hands of Neo Zeon, specifically the wreckage of the MRX-010 Psycho Gundam Mk-II and the ORX-013 Gundam Mk-V.
During the Neo Zeon civil war between Haman Karn’s faction and Glemy Toto’s faction, many pilots of the Doven Wolf joined the latter and fought against Haman’s loyalist forces. This badly decimated both sides, leaving what remained of Neo Zeon’s advanced mobile suits to be badly outnumbered by the Earth Federation Forces’ more conventional mobile suits.
After the first Neo Zeon War, several Doven Wolfs which remained at Axis were captured by the Earth Federation. These units were transferred to Anaheim Electronics’ Granada factory and modified into the ARX-014 Silver Bullet.
In UC 0096, a number of surviving Doven Wolfs were used by the Sleeves during the Laplace Incident, repainted in a blue colour scheme with distinctive Sleeves markings.
Design
The AMX-014 Doven Wolf was a highly advanced mass production mobile suit built by Neo Zeon. One of the reasons the Doven Wolf was so powerful was because of its powerful Minovsky ultracompact fusion reactor, which had a power output of 5,250 kW—the highest reactor output seen in a mass-produced mobile suit during the First Neo Zeon War.
Using design concepts taken from the salvaged Titans mobile suit MRX-010 Psycho Gundam Mk-II, the Doven Wolf incorporated wire-guided remote beam gun forearms and wire-guided remote incom beam guns, all controlled by a quasi-psycommu computer control system.
These features allowed a non-Newtype pilot to conduct all-range attacks similar to those made by a Newtype pilot using a standard psycommu system. In addition to its plethora of beam weapons, the Doven Wolf also mounted missile launchers, grenade launchers, and vulcan guns for additional firepower.
The mobile suit had Gundarium composite armour and featured excellent sensor range of 12,000 metres. Its propulsion system generated 87,300 kg of total thrust, providing excellent mobility despite its heavy armament.
Armaments
The Doven Wolf was one of the most heavily armed mobile suits of its era, featuring an extensive array of beam weapons, projectile weapons, and remote-controlled armaments.
Mega particle cannon
The Doven Wolf mounted two mega particle cannons in its torso, each with a power rating of 5.3 MW. These high-powered beam weapons provided the mobile suit with devastating anti-ship capabilities and could destroy most mobile suits with a single direct hit.
30 mm vulcan guns
Two 30 mm vulcan guns were mounted in the head, each loaded with 300 rounds of ammunition. These rapid-fire weapons were primarily used for anti-aircraft purposes and against lightly armoured targets.
Beam cannon
Two beam cannons with a power rating of 4.2 MW each were mounted in the backpack booster binders. These weapons could be deployed for additional firepower during combat engagements.
12-tube missile launcher
The Doven Wolf featured two 12-tube missile launchers that used AMS-01H heavy missiles. These provided excellent anti-ship and area attack capabilities, allowing the mobile suit to engage multiple targets simultaneously.
Wire-guided remote beam gun
The Doven Wolf’s forearms could be launched and controlled via guide wires, similar to the MSN-02 Zeong and the MRX-010 Psycho Gundam Mk-II. These remote weapons were manoeuvred by built-in verniers and small-scale thrusters, controlled through the quasi-psycommu system.
Incom beam guns
The mobile suit featured wire-guided remote incom beam guns that could be deployed for all-range attacks. The quasi-psycommu system allowed non-Newtype pilots to effectively control these remote weapons.
Beam rifle
The Doven Wolf’s primary handheld weapon was its high-powered beam rifle. This weapon could be connected directly to the mega particle guns in the abdomen and fired as an even more powerful mega launcher weapon, significantly increasing its destructive capability.

Behind the scenes
The original mechanical designer was Yutaka Izubuchi. The Doven Wolf represented a significant advancement in mobile suit technology, incorporating remote weapon systems that would later influence the development of funnel technology.
