The AMX-008B Ga-Zowmn Gunner Type was a limited production sniper transformable mobile suit produced by Neo Zeon.

The “B” variant code indicated that it was the second variation of the AMX-008 Ga-Zowmn.

History

After the defeat of the Principality of Zeon by the Earth Federation in the One Year War in UC 0080, some Zeon remnants went into hiding within the Earth Sphere while others fled to the asteroid base Axis in the Asteroid Belt.

The Zeon forces that remained at Axis and the refugees who joined them became Axis Zeon. They developed the AMX-003 Gaza-C as their first mass production combat mobile suit, which served as their mainstay through the Gryps Conflict.

Combat data from the Gaza-C led to the development of the improved AMX-006 Gaza-D. At the start of the First Neo Zeon War in UC 0088, Neo Zeon began replacing the Gaza-C with the Gaza-D.

The Zeon engineers on Axis continued developing the Gaza concept. Although the Gaza-D excelled as a transformable mobile suit, they realized that pursuing a balanced design limited potential breakthroughs. This led to the simultaneous development of the AMX-007 Gaza-E and AMX-008 Ga-Zowmn as specialized units. The Gaza-E focused on mobile armor capabilities while the Ga-Zowmn emphasized mobile suit combat.

Neo Zeon produced two Ga-Zowmn variants: the AMX-008B Ga-Zowmn Gunner Type for long-range sniping and the AMX-008M Ga-Zowmn Marine Type for underwater operations.

Design

The AMX-008B Ga-Zowmn Gunner Type was built with Gundarium alloy alloy armor developed by Anaheim Electronics on Axis. It used the same panoramic cockpit with linear seat as the base Ga-Zowmn.

The mobile suit had ten main rocket thrusters generating 92,280 kg of thrust, complemented by eighteen vernier thrusters for fine adjustments. This provided exceptional speed and maneuverability.

A distinctive radome on the left shoulder enhanced sensor range and targeting for long-range sniping missions. This worked in conjunction with the beam launcher mounted on the right shoulder.

Armaments

The Ga-Zowmn Gunner Type’s standard weapons were hybrid beam sabers for melee combat, and a beam launcher and missile launcher for ranged attacks. It equipped a hyper knuckle buster as standard issue.

Hybrid beam sabers

Two hybrid beam sabers were stored in the forearms, functioning as beam guns when mounted. They drew power directly from the mobile suit’s Minovsky reactor in this configuration.

When removed, they switched to beam saber mode using an I-field to contain Minovsky particles in a blade shape. The sabers recharged via E-caps when stored in the forearms.

80 mm vulcan guns

An 80 mm vulcan gun was mounted in each forearm, carrying 800 rounds each. These rapid-fire weapons were effective against lightly armored targets and could provide suppressing fire in both mobile suit and mobile armor modes.

Missile launcher

A 9-tube missile launcher was mounted in the left shoulder binder, firing AMS-01H heavy missiles like those used by the Gaza-D. The launcher remained functional in mobile armor mode.

Beam launcher

The right shoulder mounted a beam launcher connected to the targeting radome. This long-range weapon drew power from the mobile suit’s reactor for precision sniping attacks.

Hyper knuckle buster

The hyper knuckle buster was standard equipment, improving on the Gaza-D’s design with better range and rate of fire despite a lower 4.1 MW output. It could mount on the body in mobile armor mode as the main cannon.
