AMA-01X Jamru Fin

The AMA-01X Jamru Fin was a prototype space combat transformable mobile armor developed by Neo Zeon during the First Neo Zeon War.

The “A” in the model code meant it was an Axis model, “MA” indicated it was a mobile armor, and the “X” designated it as an experimental unit. The “01” denoted it was the first design in its series. The name “Jamru Fin” derives from “jam” and “ryu” (dragon), combined with “fin”.

History

The Jamru Fin was a prototype large mobile armor still in its development stage during the First Neo Zeon War; however, it was never completed. Despite this, the three unfinished prototypes were rushed into service and piloted by the “3-D” team of Dale, Deune and Danny.

Originally meant as a powerful space-only mobile armor for Neo Zeon’s space forces, the Jamru Fin prototypes were rushed through production due to over consumption of time. As a result, many makeshift parts were added mainly to the arms and shoulders. The three Jamru Fin prototypes were given to Neo Zeon’s 3-D Team and were used during the First Neo Zeon War.

Intended specifically for space combat, the Jamru Fin was an extremely agile unit and its main weapon, the Hyper Mega Cannon, boasted great firing range, making the Jamru Fin capable of taking out warships from the greatest possible distances. When in battle against the AEUG’s “Gundam Team”, their 3-D style of attack pattern proved highly effective.

During the Neo Zeon Civil War, the three Jamru Fins were seen in combat, however, their fate is unknown. The mobile armor represented an experimental approach to combining high mobility with heavy firepower for space operations.

Design

The Jamru Fin was designed as a transformable mobile armor that could switch between mobile suit and mobile armor configurations depending on combat requirements. In mobile suit mode, it had an overall height of 17.2 metres with a head height of 15.0 metres. In mobile armor mode, it measured 20.5 metres in overall length and 14.9 metres in overall width.

The mobile armor could adapt to a melee combat form, equipped with manipulators capable of carrying hand mounted beam guns and beam sabers. It featured an ultracompact fusion reactor with an output of 4,750 kW, providing sufficient power for its various systems and transformation mechanisms.

To further supplement the machine’s incredible speed, the Jamru Fin could also be fitted with a “Mega Booster”, which was fitted with extra weapons, extending the unit’s operating range. When equipped with the mega booster, its overall length increased to 28.2 metres and overall width to 15.2 metres, whilst its weight increased significantly.

Another optional equipment designed for the Jamru Fin was the Nuclear Pulse Engine Booster. This super long-range booster was capable of operating around the strong gravitational influence of the planet Jupiter, allowing for extended deep-space operations.

Armaments

The Jamru Fin’s standard weapons were a hyper mega cannon for long-range attacks, missile launchers for area suppression, and beam weapons for close combat.

Hyper mega cannon

The main weapon of the Jamru Fin was its hyper mega cannon. In the MS form, it is always exposed, but in the MA form, a part of the arm armor functions as a cover when not in use. It boasts the power to penetrate and sink the heavy armor of a battleship with a single blast from a distance just before the effective radius of the sensor. The output can be changed, and it would be uprated from 6 to 10 MW in the MS form and 30.1 MW in the MA form.

This weapon provided the Jamru Fin with exceptional long-range firepower, allowing it to engage enemy vessels and mobile suits from extreme distances whilst remaining outside their effective engagement range.

Missile launchers

Equipped on the wing tips of both shoulders were 3-tube missile launchers. These provided the Jamru Fin with area suppression capabilities and allowed it to engage multiple targets simultaneously or saturate an area with explosive ordnance.

Beam guns/beam sabers

Beam guns are built into the bottoms of each of the palms. By adjusting the output, they can also function as beam sabers. This dual-function design provided the Jamru Fin with both ranged and melee combat capabilities whilst maintaining the unit’s compact design.

Mega booster

A booster module that increases the output of the Hyper Mega Cannon, provides additional weaponry, and extends the Jamru Fin’s operating range. The mega booster featured a mega particle cannon mounted on its nose with an output of 6.2 MW by itself, but when combined with Jamru Fin, its output would be improved to 40.5 MW. The booster also included additional rocket thrusters providing 2 x 38,700 kg and 28,200 kg of thrust.

Nuclear pulse engine booster

A super-long range booster module that allows the Jamru Fin to operate around the strong gravitational pull of Jupiter. This specialized propulsion system was designed for extended deep-space operations and exploration missions beyond the Earth sphere.

Behind the scenes

The Jamru Fin was designed as an experimental mobile armor showcasing Neo Zeon’s advanced transformation technology and modular booster systems. The 3-D attack pattern used by its pilots became a signature combat technique associated with this mobile armor.

The design philosophy emphasised versatility through transformation and modularity through optional equipment packages, allowing a single base unit to fulfill multiple mission profiles.
